I have plenty of pictures to look at if nothing else. Thanks.

Interesting project. I remember seeing those kind of seats for sale here in Toronto about 7 years ago. They were going for $175 each back then. You got a smoking deal. Looks good so far.

Too bad you have to visit another [competing] website to view.

I am in the process of dragging all the links over to this website. But honestly a lot more input from AVS on theater construction. I don't think Curt is trying to compete in that aspect.

Hello,

I am a new home owner looking to get into a dedicated home theater room on a budget. My equipment as of right now is as follows:

NEC XG110 CRT FP
HK AVR 325
JBL NSPIIa Speaker Package
Parts Express Dayton 10” Sub

Future Equipment (as in within the theater completion timeline):

Onix Rocket speaker upgrades
Maybe a sub upgrade, unsure of what model.

Background

New home has a bonus room in the basement that was previously used as a family room with built in surround sound for an older Mitsubishi RPTV with only one couch for seating.

Current Room Tour….follow me….
The room is approximately 22’x14’ with some interesting shapes…
Here is the room as it stood when we looked at the house…nice laminate flooring…perfect for home theater….right…

Didn’t take long for that flooring to come out….

A few pics to give you an idea of space or lack there of…..

The odd angle at the rear is because of the furnace and water heater that are behind that wall. I might be able to square it off to gain a few more square feet but not much.

Now, you can see I have been marking up what I am imagining….

The crt projector I purchased from mikecazzx on AVS forum came with a stand that he built, which I will either use or recreate with a different finish. Here is what mike gave me…including the projector…well not gave I guess..

Either way these things are huge at around 34” x 54”. I don’t really like the idea of ceiling mounting this 150lb mammoth but I might change my mind soon enough. I was looking at this type of home theater style seat..

Theater seating.

So the crt projector and stand in the middle of two theater style seats on each side in the front row at about 11’ from the 110” screen (preliminarily).

Then building a riser behind this first row (possibly with some bass shakers to fit one couch for now.

I will modify one of those “dvd racks” to be an equipment rack opening…

For room color I want to use this color…

Which is a sort of deep red/maroon, with a black chair rail and some sort of fabric on the lower half of the wall. The screen wall will be some sort of black fabric as well.

I was contemplating closing the room off with a wall in the back and cutting a door through this wall….

But the hallway is pretty narrow behind it so I don’t think I can make this work.

Thanks for reading the whole thing…I guess I always read these things and wish people would put more pictures and less words…so that is what I did.

Any suggestions thus far?? Where is a good future rendering when you need one?? lol

Still need a theater room name also….

So, Just a few updates.

I found some theater seats on eBay that I repainted (almost done)

Here...

Need to get those backs painted. I plan on building a three row riser...trying to figure out if this works with the head height and ceiling hanging the projector...maybe a 4" first rise, and two 6" inch risers.

Here is what the room looked like right before I cleared it out before riser construction would begin...

and finally a good before and after paint comparison..

Before...

After....

I still need to acquire some butt kickers prior to riser construction. Luckily there is a butt kicker authorized dealer that lives 3 blocks away! Nice.

Any comments?

We got some major work done last night! Started at about 8:30 pm and went until 2:30...thank god for a heavy sleeping wife!

Starting out.....

Assembling......

Almost done now.....

Just need some plywood sheets, pink stuff, roofing felt and it is done. I haven't quite determined how I want to do the rope light...but I have some time to think about it now.

Just a sugestion. Recess the rope light if you can. Tuck it under an edge. Exposed rope lighting makes it look a little less classy.

Nice work so far.

Good Job Thumbs Up

man, Analog...you are always lurking these forums aren't you! Mr. Green

When I install the top deck it will have about an 1 1/2" overhang and a 1" piece of board on the front lip so all the light is directed down.

My only concern now is that I have (2) 25 foot lengths of rope light and I need to determine the most efficient routing for them since they will be in series.

Ahh the wiring aspect can really screw things up eh? You may have to do what I do. Sit there and stare at it 'till you are too tired to care then sleep on it and it'll come to you.

Or just put your mind to it and firgure it out LOL

I like friends that are motivated! Cool

More progress...

All filled with pink stuff...

Light it up!

50 foot of rope light with a pretty efficient routing job if I say so myself!...just need to secure it more often so it doesnt swoop down like this...

Starting to look more like a theater now!

just need to finish up the A/V rack, linacoustic the entire thing, and finally hang the projector!(need to wait on the projector to make me keep working and not just watch movies...

First, never have your camera plugged into the computer when you are starting the computer up...second..now for the pictures courtesy of a card reader...

A view from the back row...pretty low but I will get it set up to see...once you are sitting down and I get a black cover over the projector it shouldn't be that bad...plus, who cares about those in the back row...they are the friends that show up late!

Yes, and they do for me, sometimes.

Anyway, I went to the trouble of copying all my construction photos over to photobucket. It seems they are more geared toward forums and such. Here goes nothing!
