This is sort of off-topic for CRT projectors, but I picked up a Hitachi 53UDX10B RPTV this morning for free and it is showing error codes - front LED flashes constantly and the deflection power supply LED is pulsing. I believe there is an overload/short condition on the deflection board causing the power supply to cycle.

I guess I need the service manual for the set Razz if anyone might have it kicking around I would be thankful Cool

Also, a bit of online research shows a community of people who claim convergence amp repairs by replacing the STK convergence amps with 'larger' devices are more robust. Has anyone had experience with these "upgrades"?

If you want to repost this in the RPTV section, I'll see if I can help. We're out traveling right now so my responses maybe be delayed a little...... Smile

Ok I spent a little time looking over the documents on this tv and I have a few questions.

1)Do you hear the relay click when you turn it on?
2) Is it the red led (DP06) on the deflection board that is blinking?
3) I think there are 4 other leds on that board, probably green, what are they doing?

I'm trying to get a basic feel of that deflection board without having to search through documents so I need to find out just what you have going on.

Hi Mac,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner - I was in Phoenix on business.

DP06 is red and pulsing along with a chirp/click of the power supply on the DEF board. It sounds like the power supply is cycling into overcurrent protection. I remember two green LEDs illuminated, but I didn't get the TV apart enough to read the silkscreen. I am working on figuring out how to move the set 70 miles to my house so I can fix it Razz I was hoping it would come apart like an RCA so I could take the 'kit' electronics and leave the housing. I didn't see an obvious way of doing this though.

Ahhhhh, chirping sound. Probably on that deflection board for sure. You need to test Q777, D708, Q701, QH01, QH02. If any of these test bad then post back with which ones and I'll tell you where to test next. If they all test good then I'll give you more things to test........ Smile

Mac, I'm back on the trail of this set. I managed to dig up the service manual and I may *finally* be getting the set in my possession so I can work on it in the comfort of my basement.

I'll keep you posted!

I've got the set home now, along with the cabinet and a 51" Sony RPTV. I took a look at it last night and troubleshot down to the convergence amp - no surprise. The Sony also has convergence amp issues.

I will be buying lots of convergence ICs Smile
