i was wondering what the general concensus for most of the crt owners was, we all know 1080p is the best. but do most perfer movies at 1080i or 720p. i play around with both, ive read diff forums where people swear by both some the interlaced somce the progressive

There is no "one size fits all" answer. It depends on your projector, the size of the tubes, the condition, the source, and a whole slew of other things.

Personally, I much prefer 1080i over 720p - more movies especially, the spacial resolution is superior. It totally depends on your projector, though.

You have to make your own determination. Some don't like interlace, some think 720p is to low a resolution, some think 1080p is soft. If you are watching movies, then you have to throw in 1920x812p. Since you are running a Dwin, I guess you are only looking at 1080i and 720p. Again it is personal preference.

I've been using 1600X900@72Hz from my HTPC for some time. I think it's a nice compromise between 1080i and 720p, on my XG the interlace field bugs me and I can see scan lines on 1080i at 1.25 screen widths, so I prefer a progressive resolution. If you have the versatility of a scaler or HTPC you can experiment with what you like best.

I've run all sorts of resolutions. I prefer 1080i to 720p unless I'm watching FoxHD over the air then I go 720p.

On my Sony 1252 I ran allot of odd resolutions like 1422x800, 1365x768 and pretty much anything I could come up with that was odd.

On my Ampro I run allot of 1080i. It didn't like 1080p. 1440x960p at 60Hz or 72Hz depending on the source for upscaling DVD's. Then I got into 1080i/72 and finally 1080i/96Hz mainly for bluray. That looked really nice without giving it that fake 240Hz flat screen "Soap Opera, ENG Betacam" look

I can and do run 1080p. If I must go lower, I prefer 1080i over 720p.

I guess I am in the minority I actually preferred 720p to 1080i on my 8" Barco Data 808s that had the hi-res tubes. Today I have a Runco 1100 (Barco 1209s more or less) that can do 1080p so I run 1080p for stuff that is either 1080p/i, I run 720p for stuff that is 720p and 960p (4:3) for all older stuff that is 4:3 material.

All that said you need to try this for yourself and see what YOU like.

For those of you that have gone the HTPC route what software are you using to control resolution? I'm having issues with ZoomPlayer AGAIN and it worked perfectly last nite. Mad

I've got a new, tiny HTPC that uses the Intel DG45FC mobo with the onboard HDMI from the Intel X4500HD graphics chip, and there is a superb custom res program. From it, 1920x1080i at 96Hz refresh looks great. Usually I like plain old 1080i because its easy to optimize it for the sharpest picture. I've never liked 720p, and pretty much never use it...

You've got to try stuff for yourself though, my buddy tried 1600x1200p on his G90 and thought it looked much better than any of the typical resolutions. Having seen it myself, I had to agree with him...it was perfect for his projector/setup...

I've actually run stretched resolutions for so long, I actually prefer a slightly stretched look now...

Wondering, what do people like in terms of refresh rates? Not custom ones, but say 50 or 60Hz? I'm not sure i could see the difference last time i looked.
