Time to RMA? Has anyone else had any problems with theirs?

I did an RMA with mine. I bought it from NewEgg, and they initially tried to hit me with a restocking fee, but I threatened to break my 7-year relationship (never RMA'd in that time) and they waived the restocking fee. I told them that the drive wouldn't work as advertised with the included software, and that LG and Cyberlink offered no support on the matter.

Check your bios and make sure your LG sata is seen as a master in the bios. If in the wrong port it may appear defined as a slave often one gets those mixed up in the bios and they will work for awhile and then eventually it will catch up with you. Bios will look OK but you're right the optical will disappear from windows. lVery few people realize a sata drive can be a "slave" if plugged into ports sata 3 or 4.

HD must always be in sata port 1 then usually sata port 2 (master) is your optical drive but if they are in 3 and 4 they will be defined as slaves also ASUS USUALLY has a definition in that bios for a combo setup "sata and pata" and that can be causing the drives to disappear. Are you in raid as that's a WHOLE different ballgame and most of the time ASUS has crap drivers in raid, that can cause a problem all the way up and to the optical section.

Safest and best set up is HD on #1, optical on #2 both defined as masters and in the IDE controller portion (if your MoBo has one) define it as SATA. This seems to be the most reliable ASUS set up in bios.

Hope this helps.

Thank's for the tips but I don't have mine plugged into a SATA port. Long story see here.

It's also just sitting there going "whirrrrr CLICK, Whirrrrr CLICK, when I load a disk. I'll reload the disk 5 or 6 times and then it reads. However as always, at some point in the movie the drive disapears. It was always slow to read the disk from the time I got it but now it's really bad.

Finaly had time to Call LG in Mississauga ( just west of Toronto ) 905-568-6800

They tell me I have to take it into a service centre. That's unfortunate. I'm having an intermittant problem and as all of you know that's the hardest to get to manifest when you take something in for service.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Ok. The tech support told me I'd have to bring the drive into Abtech electronics and to give them a call.
I called they don't fix computer drives. Rolling Eyes

So I called back today. I got 'Mike' from tehc support whosteped me quickly through the LG.ca website.
There's a page where you put in your email address and they email you an RMA form.
https://www.lgrepairportal.com/service/

I'm awaiting the email now...

I've filled out the tech ticket. I can see the online status of the ticket number. So far so good.

Wow I got the RMA number today.
I have the form to print with the instructions

They give you their FedEx number, you call FedEx for the pic up then they ship you a new drive in a week or so. Too bad I had to use FedEx I was going to courier it over myself. It's about 20 minutes from my office

I am surprised that LG, as the manufacturer, is doing this for you. Are you conducting the RMA for replacement or trying to get your money back?

I didn't ask if you were quitting--could have been looking to replace the LG with a Sony BD-only drive for all I knew.

Why not since Toshiba, the father of HD DVD, did. Like a good little modern man, divorce was inevitable.

It's all packaged up and waiting for FedEx pickup ( they wouldn't let me courier it in myself, even though I had to drive right by LG 3 times this past week Shocked ) Fedex told me they couldn't pick up 'till Monday because of the weather. 3 minutes later the FedEx driver drove by slowly SOB! lol

I'll let you know how it goes.

Meant to update this last week. I followed their RMA procedure's to the letter. I marked all side's of the double boxed return with the RMA number. I filled out the FedEx form. THEY REFUSED DELIVERY and it bounced back.

This doest vex me so.....
SO I called the customer support line and spoke with a guy who informed me that their online RMA number's a different to their old ones and their shipping recieving department doesn't know theses are valid numbers so they refused the shipment. Shocked

Great! He then gave me their Purolator number. He tell's me this will result it the package being dropped at the front desk in Mississauga instead of the Non-receiving department. Finally I asked if I can just drop the damn thing off myself. I drove past there 3 times the week before I shipped it with FedEx, BUT, I wanted to follow their RMA procedure to a T.

Look where that got me.

I should be out there tomorrow to drop it off. Let you know how it goes.

If you want a cross ship they have to charge full value to a credit card then refund it. That's just one more thing for them to screw up so I figured I can wait.

Ok, on Wednesday I delivered the combo drive back to LG in Mississauga. Their receptionist sighned for it. All ist gut ya?

Welllllll I'm not sure. I got an email today with a pdf file that contained a "RETURN APPROVAL SLIP" with a different R/A number.

From what I can tell they think I haven't returned the defective drive yet Shocked

Big warning on the page UNIT MUST BE RETURNED WITHIN 15 DAYS OR YOUR CREDIT CARD OR ACCOUNT WILL BE CHARGED. PLEASE ATTACH R/A SLIP TO RETURN, OR UNIT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED BY LG.

I'm going to do an online check to see WTF is going on then I'll probably have to call them for the 4th time for calification on this after the long weekend.
