So is everyone experiencing the same thing I am?
Anytime you go to look for or try to download a "free" application for your computer, you either, can't find it, it didn't exist to begin with (even though the download site has it displayed as a download), or they bury it under multitudes of crap they want you to download that you don't want.
Even the search engines are getting pretty worthless. They don't bring up anything that pertains to your search, if there is the slightest chance they can display pages and pages of crap for sale.
I'm always searching for information on building things, fixing things, learning about things...
I have even started to use search engines to just search for forums that pertain to what I'm searching for. Then do a search inside the forum for the information I need.
Anyone else have their own workarounds?

Newsgroups are still alive? I started following those in the early 80's, and wasted, errr, invested thousands of hours reading, umm, really valuable stuff.
And I was on the precursor to newsgroups ("Notes" on the PLATO system) in the mid-70's...
Are all the newsgroup areas still active, or have they devolved into just a warez distribution medium?

Why don't the MPAA and other anti-piracy gestapo shut it down? They're the guys who slap $100k fines on high-school kids downloading porn. Why don't they send their goons after the guys uploading all those GBs per day? I suspect they could probably trace downloaders too, but they could damnsure track the uploaders. Why don't they?

OP: I re-read your original post, sorry to have side tracked your thread.
I agree with you, its difficult to find pertinent information, and a lot of stuff that is over a few years old is REALLY hard to find. I think of all the information lost from the early years of AVSForum.
One thing you can try is a domain search, for instance, because ebay changed their search to deny the ability to search "wildcards" the only workaround I've been able to come up with is searching for the thing I want using Google and adding "site:ebay.com". You can add the "site:" to any search and it will only search the domain you specify. Its not pretty, but its sometimes useful...
I think you're likely looking for results from "board readers", programs that search and index information from forums, etc. Normal search engines I don't think include that information very well...and lots of it is somewhat restricted by having to log in and/or register to see things like attachments and links.
Maybe try a search for a "board reader" search engine ??

These are rips of the official DVD screeners sent out to qualified Academy voters, not "cams" or any other low quality crap, btw... |
Please, no discussions on the illegal activities that you're up to.
