We've been using DVI to get video to our triple-LCD motion systems. We have to do pretty long runs to the screens - 25' at least from computer to display, and there are a few places we need interconnects along the way. We've been using DVI-over-Cat5 extenders, but the ones we're using are absolute sh*t, and are causing no end of trouble. The higher end Gefen variety are stupid-expensive, on the order of a grand each - which means 3k+ for a machine.

Do you guys have any experience doing direct HDMI/DVI runs that long, with one or two interconnects, to run 1080p60? If you're using boosters or extenders, which do you use? And where do you get your cable?

Is there any reason for HDMI or DVI to be functionally different? My understanding is that they're basically the same, but HDMI carries audio and allows for copy 'protection', but beyond that they're similar.

Any advice appreciated!

499 for 35 footers, they might make custom size for you and could be cheaper.

they have a high quality copper dvi also for 180

or cheaper yet here

Yeah, I could live with 500. Those look promising. It's about what we're spending now - though I'd be somewhat worried about putting optical cables through lots of flexing. I guess we'd have to ask them about that; it's a somewhat unusual spec for video cables. Thanks for the links, Nash!

Any ideas about interconnects - we could probably do a single cable from machine-entrance to screens, but there'd have to be another cable running from the computer to the machine entrance. I guess we'll just have to test stuff... Worst case is we'll have to use another extender and I'll take the long cable for my HT. Wink
