I'll be interested in hearing what you think, too Perisoft... Because at that price point, I have a feeling black levels are going to suck - even for a digital.

The specs claim 4000:1 on/off CR. However ProjectorCentral.com sez: Black level on the HD20 is only middling, as the projector lacks an auto-iris and has a fairly bright lamp. As a result, black areas of an image can sometimes appear very dark grayish. This is especially evident in a dark room, as the total absence of ambient light makes the lightened black levels of the HD20 a bit more apparent. On/off contrast on our test sample measured 1179:1.

Optoma, possibly one of the worst PJ's out there, constantly competing for the throne with Infocus

It'll be sharp and bright, that's about it. We had a DLP in a conference room for about 2 years. Never replaced the bulb so i'm guessing less than 2K hours before the color wheel took a crap and BenQ said more to repair than replace. Not a bad deal though, you get a crappy un-film like image for only $500. a year and a new plastic box every 24 months.

We got a BenQ as a test projector for our first motion system in 2005 - XGA DLP. We ripped the thing apart and put it back together a bunch of times modifying the lens assembly, ran it on a prototype motion system getting beat to hell for hundreds of hours... then it got chucked from place to place in a machine shop, I grabbed it and rebuilt it a couple of times, used it as a TV for a few months, and now it's in my office showing radar and news tickers while I work. Rock solid. Never missed a beat.

well DAM, if I knew you could fix it I wouldn't have pitched it in he trash .I'll save the next one for you. think they bought an Epson LCD though this time around

I didn't fix it - it never broke. We took it apart to mod the lens mounts to alter the throw distance.
Now, Mitsubishi can bite me. We shipped three HC3000s with our machines and two of them have died - and Mitsubishi's support basically told us to f*ck off. Aside from that, reliability with the PJs in our machines has been stellar; only a few failures out of 40 machines sold with projectors, and thousands of total hours in the field being beaten to hell.
