I would like to have a BD demo disc for my HT, somethign to give the casual visitor a short but comprehensive "whirlwind tour". I looked and there were tons of these made, but what is a good price. This place lists a bunch but they don't seem to be for sale

E-bay has some but $30. seems a little crazy for something that's not even a movie.

What about this one, is it a good one for $15.? Looks like it was a Best Buy product?

The prices are high because they're relatively low-production and therefore hard to find. If you want a good demo disc, buddy up to a dealer that will give them to you, or get out your credit card.

The disc you linked to looks pretty good for the price, if you want a demo disc. Of course, that was a free promotional disc from Best Buy, so I'd be almost as annoyed at paying $18 (with shipping) for something that was a retail giveway as I would paying $30 for an even better demo disc that was relatively limited-production and given only to dealers and other trade professionals like the DTS discs.

There is one of those Hancock discs from the same seller with a 1-cent starting bid, and only one bidder. Could try throwing a bid in for $5 or $10 and see what happens.

FYI, there are also some guys over at AVS just starting work on a home-brew 1080p demo disc. Could be a month or more though, as they're just getting started soliciting opinions on clips, etc.

Try the Blu Ray of CARS .... it's awesome!!

I have the Hancock promotional disc and a Spidey 3 promotional disc but the CARS blu ray is what I would use if I wanted to wow somebody.

EDIT = I think it even starts with a pro-Blu propaganda video which does what I think you want. It shows lots of great examples of PQ and AQ while some off screen voice sort of talks about various awesomeness of the format.

The beginning of Cars is definitely awesome. Pitch black, baby! Hey, where'd my hand go?!?!

Ratatouille is beautiful, too. Excellent AQ and PQ.

All sorts of reference quality discs now, but if you want a nice 15-30 minute demo with lots of decent-length clips, your options are more limited. If the AVS guys can pull off the demo disc, that will be awesome for demos.

the begning of cars is great, however I really want a pro quality demo disc. A friend of mine bought one over 2 weekends ago and you can just tell it's a pro disc, from the menu's to the clips, etc. There was movies, concerts, animation, documentary nature filming, etc. you name it. Those guys on AVS are well inentioned but I doubt they will achieve perfection

Current Plan
We’ll make the disc so it can be burned to a normal DVD5 (single-sided) or possibly a DVD9 (dual-layer) to add a bit more room for content. You WILL NOT NEED a blu-ray burner for this demo. All movies will be in AVCHD format (which is natively playable on nearly all stand-alone Blu-Ray Players and the PS3) with minimal video quality loss. You WILL NOT be able to play these files on a standard-definition DVD player, sorry.

for the DLP/LCD crowd "minimal quality loss" can mean anything. I will be happy with ZERO quality loss Very Happy
Seriously, I was just watching a new BD disc last night on my new Panasonic BD-80 and the pic is just amazing. I never really believed I would get this kind of peformance out of an 8 inch CRT.

thanks brian , I'll look for that one as well. wish me luck on flea-bay bidding on those "free discs" Rolling Eyes . SC is right, paying for freeware just feels wrong. i need to start going to more shows.

If only I hadn't given away and thrown out my pile of Hancock freebies.

My Best Buy put $0.01 price tags on them directly and I bought 10 of them for like $0.07 (Because there was a buy one get one free sale going on as well.) (I bought them to replace broken blu ray cases and gave away the discs.... I gave one of the discs to a neighbor,... maybe he still has it and doesn't want it ?? I can ask.)

I wish I still had an extra but .... I don't think those are demo discs so much as just discs with some trailers on there to promote Hancock and other new (at the time) releases.

your joking right, people are paying $15. each for those stupid things on E-bay. 10 of them would have been $150. minimum

Hi,

I wish I was joking. I gave away several and threw out a few.

I kept one. (I also have a similar one from a Spidey 3 promotion.)

Anyone that pays for these is a silly goose. It's just a handful of movie trailers.

Still.... I bought 3 of the $9.99 Blus at my local BJ's and if I would have kept these ... I would have used the cash to buy them all.

I have collected a fair amount of demo disc.....even bought some of them Smile
They are normally really a crowd pleaser as far as demos go.
If you had a HD-DVD player..I could help you out with a DTS demo disc..as I think I have 2 left......but I not sure if I have any Blu-ray ones left. Will have to look thru my large assortment of demo disc material when I get home.

I've actually seen the $37. one at my place 2 weeks ago, A friend got it for free at CEDIA and yes it was very cool. I need to start going to more of those, too bad this year it's in Georgia.
If you have any discs you could part with let me know, happy to float a few bucks your way.

While we're talking demos and Pixar, the scenes in WALL-E right after he rides the ship out into space are just staggering - particularly on CRT. After my most recent calibration/etc, those were some of the first I watched, and if they look that 3D on my system, anyone with something dialed in will need to belt people in to stop them falling off the couch. Staggeringly beautiful, and the focus pulls of Wall-e vs. the starfield are enough to make you grab for the armrests so you don't float away.
