Thanks Macgyver655,

Only set the sync, horz width and HOT protection pots at 15kHz.
Could not set sync for 30kHz as unit shuts down.
Did not set all pots at centre or min as manual discribes due to the fact that there were no problems with the projector before it went into storage, (aquired a BG800 with new tubes).
Is it possible this is the reason that it needs to be done in sequince?
Would increased curent not cause the horizontal size to increase instead of giving me partial collapse before shutting down?

Sean

Not necessarily. I've had where the pic would get progressively smaller as the input resolution increased. There is more then 1 switching per frequency so it depends on where the problem is. If you look at page 7-5-20 in the service manual and find the legend boxes it shows you test point voltages for various resolution. You would test based on the resolution being inputted. But, if the projector is shutting down then you have to disable the circuit shutting it down base on the error code, so the projector stays running. But you have to be careful that further damage is not cause by whats causing the problem. You may have to disable the high voltage. Then you would have to disable the protection circuit for no high voltage.

Are you getting an error code after shutdown?

As you can see this can be very difficult to trouble shoot if your not real familiar with these circuits.

Another reason to give Curt a high five for those who he has fixed their boards. This stuff isn't always easy even for a veteran repair tech...... Smile

Of course thats why this stuff is fun. Its always a challenge even after many years of doing it. You never now what your going to end up with next.

Thanks again,

Finding my way around the electronics is not a problem, been in the industry for the past 25 years first audio (Harmon Kardon service agent) and now industrial system design and repairs, it's just the lack of experience on projectors things have changed since the days of Blaupunkt TV's.
Will check on the service manual reference and work my way through it.Have figured out the HT protection circuits so will disable for testing.
