|
|
My ht room is too god damm bright, I'M IN NEED OF HELP!!!
I have just moved to a bigger apartment, but I still wont have a room only for ht:(
Room size: 5meters x 3,8 meters or 15 x 11 feet, with projection to the narrow wall.
The room for my ht will include a reading corner with 2 lounge chairs behind be "theater" seating.
Therefore the paint has to be kept in bright colors. The apartment has been painted white just before I moved in, and I has to keep it in bright colors anyway, so I don't want to spend money painting it again if it wont make a real differens.
Some of the interior is white as well.
big white leather couch with a chaise longue
white front speakers B&W 805 matrix shelfspeakers
White center speaker B&w htm
Big white square on the wall
the floor is normal oakfloor.
I can get away with a dark carpet, not wall to wall, but from the couch to the screen!
every thing else will have to be interchangeable or retractable and with the highest possible GAF/waf.
What can I do to darken my room?
Frames covering the projection wall(except the screen surface) with darkgray filt on one side and white painted cloth on the other side so it can be flipped when ht not in use.
Pull down curtains on the projection wall
Are there any other possibilities i haven't thought off? and what about the first 3-4 feet of ceiling and side walls as I understand they are quite important too!
Best regards and sorry for the way to long text

How about a curtain rod/rail that runs the perimeter of the room, hang some black fabric. Like the systems they have in hospitals for sectioning off rooms. The downside being that this sounds expensive and hard to find unless you get lucky.

You could build some type of structure at the end of the curtain rail that you could push the fabric into, kind of like a pocket door.

You can also go with removable rigid panels held up with magnetic strips. Others have talked about doing this for masking as well as covering the ceiling in between projector and screen (which is the aspect I am considering). You would just take 4x8 light weight rigid foam panels (Home depot etc/ cut to size and cover with glued black felt material, and store somewhere else when not watching the pj.

You have mentioned most options available ,you just have to take the plunge and do them, or buy a digital .
Back wall and screen masking are the two most obvious choices to do first . You can also make a screen shadow Box out Of Black fabric which will help a lot in a white room. It does not have to be too deep or ugly even a few inches deep with the right angle will help and be incorporated into your screen frame.

good ideers,
rigid lighweight foam panels, like a cheap foammadress just more stable? how thin can you get those panels?
i like the ideer of not having to store them elsewhere so i have to make a white and a black side and a wall mount. also a rather good ideer with pull curtains on the ceiling.
Screen shadow Box out Of Black fabric, can you explain the concept at bit further?
why is the back wall so important? mine is 15 feet away from the screen and my pj is only a sony d50 with a small light output so i haven't considered lightreflextion from the back wall as an possible issue.
you just have to take the plunge and do them, or buy a digital.
why cant a guy consider all the possibilities before plunging in the wrong lake, i want the best solution, not just a solution.
best regards
panduro
thanks for the respons

A creative person clones the female and eliminates the original copy, then trains said clone to like dark spaces (like closets).

There's those craft foam sheets ( http://www.amazon.com/Elmers-FOAMBOARD-20X30-10-10pk-951120/dp/B0006VRTZM )
That you could hang on the wall with either velcro or a single finishing nail. The boards are fairly large (20" by 30") and only 1/4" thick. It wouldn't take much to cover the whole wall and you'd have a solution for under $70
If you want them hidden, take them off the wall and they'd easily fit under a couch. You could probably tape/pin them to the roof without doing much damage.
Hope that helps.

I'd set fire to one outside before bringing it inside. It may go up in a "WOOOOOOF" some foam is like that. I had some picture mounting boards here a while back. I acidentaly got it to close to a flame. The dam thing went up so fast I could barely drop it. I had 20-30 of those boards in various sizes.
I threw them all out.

Ok, I said budget, not necessarily safe. Excuse me Simon the safety bear!
Ok Fine... You want cheap and ugly? Buy acoustic ceiling tiles and paint them black. It'll help with the sound as well.
You could "Dry brush" orange and red into it and give it a "lava effect"...
