.....on the green tube for the electrohome. Can I get a plate from anywhere, or they optically ground? I didn't crack the tube, just the glass at the front of the glycol chamber.

And where can I get Glycol from?

Look for a spent tube to get a donor piece. EMC electronics for the Glycol i think.

How was this mounted? You want to be sure no glycol dripped onto any of the boards.

It was mounted right side up, but I noticed it before any amount of glycol leaked on to the boards.

So I can't just go to a glass shop and get a piece of glass the same thickness cut for it?

No. The glass is anti reflective and probably coated as well. A donor tube would be the best. (you could probably use normal glass but I guess that the halos would be horrible. And even double image.)

Curt has glycol.

I think you will discover it is a lot easier to swap housings
than to change out the glass.

What kind of projector are you talking about? An ECP or a Marquee?

If it's a Marquee, 8" or 9"?

If it's an ECP, it'll be Sony tubes.

If it's an 8" Marquee, it'll be Panasonic tubes. Those glass/coolant chamber assemblies CAN be swapped out,
and I've done it, but it is by no means a trivial job.

If it's a 9" Marquee, you've got the CRT face and the C element, and the lens assembly. It's unlikely that any of these broke
so I doubt that it's a 9" Marquee.

I believe it is an ECP. He has a wanted ad going for a toasted SD-187 tube.

There's a full set of MS-07 Sony tubes appropriate for your ECP on ebay right now, and I doubt very much they'll get much action as they're only any good for fairly low quality projectors that only owners are really putting anything into any more. If you can't find the listing, let me know and I'll dig it up for you...

I've done this a bunch of times. That includes putting tubes face down on arborite without any cloth between the glass and the counter. For some reason that cracks tube faces quickfast. IN your case, you probably overtightened the springs on the lens assembly. Done that too with an ECP... twice.

After you silicone the glass back on and fill with glycol, assemble the tube/lens assembly outside of hte projector, and have about 1/4" gap between the lens metal and hte tube face. THen when doing the Scheimflug adjustments with the wrench, only loosen the springs, don't tighten the bolts. THe exact gap amount doesn't matter, as long as its even all around the tube.

I did the exact same thing about eight years ago, all within the first four minutes of CRT ownership, man I was pissed.

You aren't a seasoned CRT tech until you spot burn at least one tube, blow up a perfectly good working projector due to 'let's see what this does', and smash a safety glass.

I sport burned a 2 week old tube in a Cintel MkIII telecine once. I didn't enjoy walking onto my bosses office to inform him we needed to order another $12k tube. Funny thing is, we got the new one in and a collegue did the same thing about a month later! Turned out to be a lose connection on the deflection in the deflection controller, fixed it and never spotted a tube since (knock on wood). Our maintenace budget really took a beating that quarter!

Yep, I can even push the power button on the remote without cringing!

Turned out to be R22 on the neck boards were blown, this took out the HVPS which in turn took out the LVPS, fuse and the lights Thumbs Up

That was the first blown fuse in probably 15 years here.

Nice!

Now you need to finish the theatre before it's warm enough for your car stuff.
