For those of you that have your HDFury Gamer/HDfury1/HDFury2/HDfury3 hooked up but are NOT getting an HDMI picture from your PS3 you need to try the steps below

Don't have your HDfury yet? Order it here: www.curtpalme.com/Products.shtm#Marketplace
Fast (1-5 day) free worldwide shipping with a tracking number is included!

First, connect your composite (Yellow) cable to your TV so you can navigate the menus.
Push and hold the PS3's power button until you hear a beep.
This resets your resolution on the HDMI to 480P (576P in PAL countries).
Then connect your HDFury to the PS3 with the HDMI cable.

You will get a message that says:
"An available HDMI device was detected.
Do you want to output audio and video using HDMI?"

Say Yes.

It will ask you if you want to switch to Optimal settings say NO

You will then see your screen on the HDFury at 480P

Goto Settings--> then Video settings,

scroll down to "BD1080 24Hz output HDMI"

Change this from AUTO to OFF

Push the "x" key to save

Go back to "Video Settings"

Scroll down to Display settings hit 'x'.

Video output settings HDMI

Select the resolution you need for your display

Check off 1080i or 720P. Then push the joypad to the right to set your highest setting.

Max resolution
Do you want to accept? Say YES

Press 'x' to save settings

Set your audio output in the next step. Your options are:
Audio over HDMI ( use this if you are ouputing audio to a receiver via HDMI ),
Audio over optical ( use this if you are using a digital optical audio connection to your receiver) or
Audio over AV cables or SCART (Use this for 2 channel audio analog output).

Now select the connection you need for audio output

Press 'x' to save

Now change over to the input you have the HDFury connected to.
Pop a disk in your drive and watch a movie or play a game with your new HDFury!

Now some of you may be wondering why all the steps just to get a picture on your 1080i or 720p television.

The HDFury is a 1080p maximum resolution device. When you plug in an HDMI cable to it your source ( PS3 in this case ) reads the EDID ( Extended Display Identification Data ) in the HDFury ( think of the HDFury as a TV with no screen ). What does this mean? It means because the EDID in the HDFury tells the PS3 it can do 1080p/24Hz, the PS3 will set it's output to this automatically. That's why we select 'NO' when prompted to use optimal settings.

We have to go through, step by step as above to properly set it to what our projectors or TV's can handle. For instance. If you have a 1080i CRT rear projection TV then you will turn OFF the 24 fps because it doesn't support it. Select 1080i because this is the resolution the TV needs and then it's all set. If we don't do this and allow the PS3 to set it automatically to 1080p/24fps we end up with no picture. Our 1080i TV doesn't understand the signal. In essence we aren't speaking the right language.

One suggestion where you wrote "You will then see your screen on the HDFury at 480P"

You should add "assuming the screen is 480p capable", which we know is very low resolution but we have seen some screen not supporting that res, so if screen is black at that time, it means the solution is either to do the settings "blind" or to use a screen on A/V out or HDMI screen or even 480p capable screen.

When you select 1080i, make sure you don't have 720p or 1080p selected.

Push the 4 way digital pad on the joystick to the right. If you have 1080i selected then your PS3 should set the HDMI output to 1080i.

unfortunately when I select only the 1080i the 480p stays and then I move to the right it trys change it to the 1080i but I see squiggly line that run fast across the screen.

Here is my set up HDMI to DVI 10' => HDFURY => 15din jumper => TV (Philips 55PP9352)

Like I said it works Great @ 480p But thats not what I bought the HDFURY for.
I have the Manual for my TV and it says that It will Run HD @ 480p or 1080i on two Channels ( AV4 - component or AV5 15din)

Summary of signal compatibilities
Input jacks on TV
Compatible output signal
from an external source or device
HD INPUT-AV 4 and HD INPUT-AV 5
1080i (1080 lines, interlaced) or
480p (480 lines, progressive scan)

and Yes on AV4 component it w=does run at 1080i from the Xbox 360 and PS3

In case anyone is interested, here's a link to Sony's PS3 support page: http://www.us.playstation.com/support/ps3
According to Sony, holding the power button on powerup for >5s will reset the video output to "standard definition". I would think standard definition should = 480i @ 30 fps but I'm not sure.

I've had a look at your TV's input. It does indeed say it can display 1080i via the HD15 input. However, be advised that the HD15 input may not like the RGB signal timings coming from your source when converted to RGB.

Try hooking your HDFury2 to the component input ( set the switch on the HDfury2 to YUV ) use the VGA to 3 RCA lead that came with your HDFury2. Then try 1080i and tell us if you get a picture.

Ahhhh ok, there's the confusion.

I'd sugest one of two things. Sell the HDFury1 and get an HDFury2 or add a Box1040 Lite to your setup. The Box1040 lite has an Image Alignment Circuit and should help you in getting a picture on the TV. Plus there's a bonus component input as well.

You'll have the added benefit of gamma boost as well. But yes, more money.

Actually if you look 2 post's above I recommended the Box1040 lite. You're right, your TV won't do 1080p so save some money.

Id say the HDfury1is giving you a picture at 480p but not 1080i because they are two different scan rates. Your source is putting out video signal timings that are designed for digital displays, not CRT's. The new digital displays can get by with a narrow video signal but CRT's need a wider signal or some way to shift the signal over to make it visible for a CRT TV.
The narrow signal ends up shifted too far to the left. The result your TV doens't know what to do with it and can't display it.

Try it again. Did you push and hold the power button for 5 seconds to do the reset?

I didn't it several times. Once this was reset I would get video on both for the first question only, after that it would show thru the HDFury only. And at the one point where you check 1080i and have to accept it goes blank until you click thru these options of saving.
