Hi there,

I've got a Graphics 801 with a little wear and a Data 800 with pristine tubes. I'm in the process of moving the blue from the 800 to the 801 but have stumbled upon something unexpected!

The deflection unit on the 800 tube is a big white donut and on the 801 tube its a smaller grey box type. I want to keep the magnets intact on each tube to save fiddling with them later so im literally just moving the whole unit between each set.

Would anyone be able to tell me whether they are compatible?

Also, both tubes are set up nicely in their respective machine. Are the magnet settings dependent on the particular CRT or are they influenced and calibrated to the set?

Thanks so much for any help.

Jon

tubes should be marked with sticker. most likely the 800 has mp tubes and the 801 msp(a little sharper, brighter). If you swap the magnetics you should have no problem as the tubes have same bell. The focus voltage is slightly different between mp and msp tubes but you should be OK going from 800mp into 801 but not if 801 msp into 800 as the 800 focus block runs out of correction range. At least is what I remember when I did this.

The yokes should be the same. I haven't swapped them, but the circuitry is close enough between the two sets that they should work.
