I bought two of these. They got beat up in shipping but I managed to scrounge parts from the two to get one working. My problem is now that there's no way to get into the menu. Aparently I need a Direct TV card to access this and turn on the ATSC side of the box?

Anyone got a DTV card I can borrow?

TIA

I thought the cards are associated to or married to the box? that is why when you go out to the lake or over to a friends house you need to take the card and box, not just the card.

I'm a little new to these, brand new. I remember reading over at A*S about being able to borrow a card just to set up the ATSC part and then you're all set.

Plus there's a S-video input so you can upscale to 480P, 720P, 1080i. I would really like to get this going in time for my ATSC tuner testing.

Can anyone confirm you need to have the orgional card or will any card do?

thanks guys.

I've got a few I think. PM me and addie and I'll send you one, postage due, return receipt requested, in a letter labeled "HERPES TEST RESULTS" in big red letters!

Seriously, I've got one for you. PM me your addie.

I've tried this with four different cards in mine. It did not work. Maybe I got four bad cards?

Put in a card, bring up the menus, tell the STB that the dish type is 'none,' and then remove the card.

Some of those boxes besides the card contacts had a little switch in the card slot to indicate the card was in there to turn it on. If you just slip in a credit card to push on that switch, the menu may work....... dont remember for sure.

Maybe mine's broken, but I could not get it to let me change the antenna. I tried credit cards, dtv cards, you name it. I have not taken it apart yet, but that might be next.

There's not much in there. I had to swap parts from two to make 1. All that's in there is the mother board, SMPS board and video in/out boards.

Can you short/open the switch that detects the card?

Do you have the ATSC tuner working? If so how?

If it has the switch there will be 2 pins on the back of the board from the card holder. These would be separate from the 2 groups of 4 pins that are for contact with the card chip. You can just dab some solder on them to connect them to bypass the switch. Of course you could test the switch with a DMM and a credit card to see if its working.

I used it both when i was on DTV and also now when i am on cable and use it to upscale my old dvd plaver (480p out)to 1080i and for OTA HD -

I had to use a card to enable the antenna - but it has been too long for me to remember the exact process. Smile

Was this a behavior of the 360 model? I have a 160 STB that I do not use anymore. I was under the impression the ATSC worked regardless of the D* thing. I guess I could test this today.

So all we need to do is take the box over to someone's house that has a valid card and borrow it for a few minutes to set the menu for antenna?
