Mark...help me figure out why my MPC HC is pixellating when trying to play a few ripped BR's.

I used AnyDVD HD to rip them in the regular file structure. I downloaded the latest MPC HC and tried to play them. They all loaded fine and sound pretty good but they are pixelly. It only does it about every three seconds and pretty constant as well.

I have tried the regular MPC HC and the 64 bit version.

I am using a core2duo 7350 with 512mb 9600gt 4gig RAM Vista Premium 64 etc etc

Anything obviously wrong you can think of?

Freezes WMP11. Only audio in VLC.

That first picture is a work of art. Like a modern day Picaso.

The second one is a horse in a yellow dress.
Very Happy

Haha, I knew I would get grief for that movie. I ripped it because I sent it back to BB after cancelling but the wife hadn't watched it yet. I figured if I can't figure out how to watch it or stream it to the PS3 I wasn't out much.

SHe actually looks better in the first picture if you ask me.

So no one has any ideas why its doing this? I see something like this with non-HD content I've d/l, and it has always been the codec being employed by Power DVD.

So I wonder how I figure out what codec I am actually using? Maybe then I can try a few different ones to compare? I am at a loss with this stuff and the wife kind of wants to watch this movie. Crying or Very sad

To me this looks like hardware acceleration going wrong. Try CoreAVC as codec, this has never given me any problems and is pretty fast too.

Is your power supply adequate for the task at hand. Low power to the card can cause this type of corruption you have posted. Just a thought.

Don't really feal like buying anything else. Is there a free alternative? Not really sure how much I will use it.

I tried the trial version and don't know how to apply it. When I opened the files in WMP11 the CoreAVC logo popped up in my task bar and then WMP11 froze and crashed. Tried it with several different files, same result.

How do I implement it into MPC HC?

This is a laptop, so I would find it hard to believe that they would underpower the video card. I am also plugged into a power outlet so I am not in energy saver mode.

Looks like the bug in the internal MPC-HC decoder for VC-1. Use a different decoder.

I use FFdshow, but that is actually set to use WMV9 decoder internally - I use ffdshow to to the RGB conversion to retain video levels and add some sharpening.

Yes, sharpening or noise reduction, on Bluray. My new Processor (Q6600 at 3.0ghz) is fast enough - it's like the early days of DVD playback using ffdshow again Smile

What version of FFDShow are you using? What source do you use for downloading?

Ok, thanks Mark! That did it. Now I can use WMP11 to watch them in perfect picture quality. Now I am really contemplating buying AnyDVD HD unless there is another option for archiving BR's.

Do you rip in ISO or the BR file structure?

BTW...MPC HC still isn't working. Oh well.

I convert to MKV with FLAC audio (everything is 100% quality).

There are still two little bugs which stop me watching BD direct with MPC-HD.

A problem with the internal splitter (choppy VC-1), and ffdshow audio only decodes the DTS core). So close...

Thanks, I will look into that. It seems that I will need to be buying some HDD's as well.

I thought I just saw a Hitachi 1TB for $80...hmmm...

I have never owned Hitachi drives. I know Hitachi bought IBM's consumer drive division, but I never knowingly owned an IBM drive either.

Holy crap. Now we are getting complicated again.

Does a MKV with FLAC reduce the file size considerably? I think Assassination of Jesse James is about 20Gigs so would it be reduced with this method?

Maybe I will back off again, until someone integrates this all into a package like DVDShrink.

I usually ended up with 10+ GB files when I ripped HD-DVD's, I'm guessing Blu-ray is similar.

I'm waiting for a DVDshrink equivilant for Blu-ray and HD-DVD, once I found Nvidia gamma adjustment I stopped seeing the point to spending my time ripping discs.
