I need gamma and 1080i 72Hz. I suppose that means powerstrip which I'm hoping will play well with Vista? I would also need HDMI audio for the uncompressed Blu-Ray stuff...is that all possible with this motherboard? I think CPU is a no-brainer, I just need to be certain about a mobo.

Motherboard:
GA-MA78GM-S2HP
http://www.shoprbc.com/ca/shop/product_details.php?pid=51759

there is also the
GA-MA78GM-S2H doesnt' have the P like above...not sure what the difference is, perhaps firewire??
http://www.shoprbc.com/ca/shop/product_details.php?pid=40406

any thoughts or snags I should be aware of?

Ben

I can't help you with the motherboard, but I do know that powerstrip does NOT play nice with Vista, it works but has some issues, I run 1080p 60 but in powerstrip it shows up as 1080p 18 and interlaced resolutions are a real mess. I'm using a Geforce 7950GT.

I don't have a problem with ATI/AMD video and Powerstrip/Vista.

can you elaborate on that?? Is PowerDVD the player of choice for Blu-Ray? What about mkv's?

So, there's no way to get gamma with an HTPC?? This is disturbing...

Nvidia cards have gamma for video and it works fine with Powerdvd, Nvidia cards also have color space choices to deal with BTB and WTW signals (at least I think this is what it is for).

Should I consider an Nvidia based board then? I'm quite sure I'll want gamma...and I don't want other external devices.

It might be a good option to consider....Are you connecting the projector via good ole RGBHV?

Powerstrip and Nvidia was broken when I build my HTPC, that's why I went with ATI. I understand its fixed now.

I think you would be better asking these questions over on the AVS HTPC section. These items have been discussed many times over there.

I use powerdvd for bluray and I was using the RTC2200 for gamma. I'm not using the RTC2200 anymore as I don't have a CRT, you want to buy it? I also have an HDFury that I don't need anymore Smile

I have been using an ATI 4850 for HDMI audio/video but I just purchased an ATI 4550 that I will be testing out to see if it can replace the 4850. The 4850 was noisy and very power hungry, the 4550 only draws a max of 25W and is fanless.

I run HDMI audio/video through my Lumagen Radiance to my receiver and projector.

Chris.
