Hey, in another thread, SC commented that some people might be interested in Digital CIH set ups. Before I spend the time to write anything up, I wanted to see if there was interest in a summary with links to resources and some various set up options.

The costs for a digi CIH set up (display chain) are:
- Decent set up that is very enjoyable and would impress all but videophiles - <$1600.
- Good but not top tier set up - $2000-4000
- All out f*cking awsome - >$6000

Let me know if there is serious interest and, if so, what cost range to focus on.

I'm interested.

Smile

You could just do a quick summary in a first post, but throw in three more placeholder posts for details on the decent, good, and all-out F'ing awesome tiers. That way, you can add as you have the inclination, or as people are interested.

Thanks, Dave!

Kal, is it possible to upload arbitrary file types into a post here (for instance an .xls for this topic that I don't want to have to host)?

Yup. There's quite a few file types allowed and I can obviously change it as needed. To see the list go to the Advanced Posting screen and click on the link "Allowed Extensions and Sizes" to see what's allowed.

Here's a direct link: http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/attach_rules.php?f=22

As ashamed as I am to admit it...I am interested. As much as I love my CRT right now, I know I will be going digital one day and when I do it will be CIH. Go for it Dave because as much as I want to slap you about the face with a white glove sometimes, I know you will do this justice. Carry on sir! Mr. Green

IIRC you have an HC3000 in the attic? If so, I could possibly lend you the stuff to play with CIH on SD DVDs.

Dave,
I may take you up on this but it will be awhile. We usually get pretty busy at work toward the end of the year. Curious why you say SD DVDs? I could extend the hdmi cable from my CRT and have hi def to the digital.
Thanks
Dan

The HC3000 has the necessary scaling mode built in to use an anamorphic lens. But, that scaling mode will only work with SD sources. So, to play with it, you only need an anamorphic lens. At this point, I have 3 of those at my house!
