Well with the economy going the way it is, does anyone know if Sony will be dropping the price on the PS3?
I just ordered a hdfury2 and will be picking up a barco port3 board from Curt next month when I'm in Vancouver but i'm holding off buying a PS3 in case the price drops a bit more.

If you are not a gamer, there is little reason to pick up a PS3 now with the new and used prices on stand-alones. But, if any drop is going to come, it will come before Xmas.

I do play some games once in awhile. I seem convincedd that PS3 is the best way to go for Blu-ray. I'm just being patient and hoping that the ps3 go down before christmas.

The PS3 is also the fastest-loading player, gets frequent software updates, and will have far better resale than a standalone player if you decide to upgrade later. Only real disadvantages are the price, and the non-IR controller.

I love my remote collection. Keeps the wife way from turning on the pj without me being around. So no Oparah on the big screen.

Lack of analog audio out for HD-Audio if you don't have a processor with an HDMI input can be an issue also.

Am I wrong that this isn't an issue if I have the audio going through an hdfury2 and out to my receiver?

The HDfury2 extracts the audio from the HDMI bitstream and sends it as Toslink, but only for the older standard lossy dolby digital/dts. This is not an HDfury2 limitation but a Toslink limitation: Toslink can't handle the bandwidth of lossless audio.
For the audio just feed your receiver directly from the PS3 via Toslink. Same result.
Or if your reciever is newer and supports lossless, it'll get fed audio via HDMI.

While I appreciate multi-channel audio, and really have enjoyed DTS over DD, I can say that I am far, far more a videophile than audiophile. And considering the questionable nature of those standalone players, I would say you get what you paid for. Of course, I am speaking from personal experience and even at $210--220 the Samsung just is not worth it. Maybe the Panasonic '35 might be worth it if you can get it for the same amount (as the Samsung) but otherwise I am going to advise HTPC or PS3.
And yes, I am re-considering the HTPC again with the cost of the BD-ROM drives haven dropped to below $100.
