Is the sencore cr70 good for testing and repairing tubes in projectors. Specifically is it good for testing Sony SD146A tubes. I want some way of testing tubes before installing tubes in my Projector.

Its excellent for testing... The tubes we're interested in generally require the universal adapter (clip leads.)

SD-146A CRT Pinout
F1 F2 Color K G1 G2
7 8 Red 10 5 9

Ignore the 'red' it's just the default reporting in the website database.

Here's the setup:

Oh, and make sure to set up the CR-70 for the universal adapter... the setup knobs are set to 1,2,3,4,5,6 for the UA. Check the setup book to be sure.

I have access to one which will go cheap, with the UA and all the sockets, but the connector is damaged and will have to be repaired. I would be happy to pack it and ship it for actual cost, if the Customs stuff promises to be not too much of a PITA.

Resurrecting this old thread...
The Sencore documentation appeares to be wrong for this tube... I just had eyes on a few in the garage of Chip (stefuel here) and it appears that pin 8 on the SD146A is not connected to anything... 6,7 appear to be the heater.

Panasonic and Sony had different ways of numbering the tube pins. That may be the source of confusion. The attachment shows The Sony base renumbered to match the Panasonic method and the tube socket number system.

Scott, we're talking about SD-146A (electrostatic tubes). These should be the same pin-out as SD-187 and 07MS 7" tubes.

I'm going to bring that stuff back in the house so I can mess with it sitting down at the kitchen table (the wifes gone to work) Laughing

I'm forbidden from working on hobby stuff in the house as I've already burned the oak dining room table with a soldering iron Twisted Evil

Just tell her you're marking your territory. It's either a little scorch mark on the table or pee in the corner!
