My Point exactly.

What the CRT dudes are trying to convince me of "and they have" is too keep the CRT since I allready have it.

The only thing I suffer from is the rainbow effect, once the projector is in and in place we will see how much eyestrain it causes me. If it is ok I will be keeping both.

OK,

The HD 65 came in yesterday, and I set it up roughly last night.

My wife has always commented "I dont know what all the fuss about HD is, I cant see the difference!"

Last night, while watching Transformers in HD to look for rainbows she walked in to the theater.

"Is that the new projector?" she queeried.

Yes I replied.

"Is this in HD?" she pondered.

Yes, I again replied.

"You mount that big projector on the ceiling and I will drop it on your head, just look at that picture!" and then sat with me through the rest of the movie ohhhing and ahhing.

"Put in, Under The Tuscan Sun" she said after Transformers was done. I reluctantly did. She sat there for the next 1.5hrs watching the movie and constantly calling me back to the theater, look at this, look at that! She has never wanted to sit in the theater for more than one short movie, now she is planning her viewing for the next 60 days!

I am in deep trouble with the big CRT Shocked

That's bad news...but honestly, if the HD65 looks that much better than your 8500, your 8500 isn't set up properly.

So go ahead and get rid of the 8500.... use the money from it to buy bulbs for the other one...

CRT Ben:

Agreed, the blue tube is bad. Crying or Very sad

I got the three year bulb warranty with the unit for an additional $95 so I am covered.

Considering all the work for the 8500 and the great picture I get with this I guess I will part out the 8500 after all.

It will be sad to see it go but the HD65 is plenty good for me Very Happy

Hey, it's all about what works for you and your wife. I think people were getting upset in the other thread only because they perceived insult to the Marquee chassis Wink

I might be interested in some spare parts; I'll send you a PM.

UPDATE:

Ceiling mounted the HD65 last night, dialed it in with Avia.

Watched HD movie to test.

Best decision "I" have made in a long time.

I emphasize "I" cause digital aint for everyone.

No rainbows, good contrast, fluid picture, the image really pops compared to my "not well adjusted 8500"

I am a happy camper.

Glad it works well for you, Joe. I'm sure I'll be there some day. Give 'em another 5 years and maybe the LED projectors will be perfected, or they might have something even better. For now, hell, I got no time to watch movies anyway, so I'm not gonna waste any money on another projector of any flavor!!

One of the guys over at lumenlab has had some good luck modifying an LCD projector to use an LED light assembly of his own design.

Here is a Taiwanese projector that was featured at Cedia.

This is the link to the new projector.

So yes the future is promising. I am looking forward to getting my hands on one after they have matured a bit.

Until you make her use it to feed you. Wife and I are putting money into the master bath in the Spring (after the basement is finished this holiday season).

But how long will that excitment last? I get one project finished and she's complaining about something else. No wait, that's BEFORE I get one project finished.
