Lowes and HD sell the thicker stuff. I'm not sure if you can even get the thinner (vertical) mount stuff from them

I called the Reico distrubtor place here.
They sell 5x12 or 4x8 (designer white, thick stuff) for $0.88 per sq. ft. Other sizes ar $2.10 per sq. ft.
Mine was $0.78 per sq. ft cause it was the thin stuff.
Either way, my only point was to look for other places to buy the stuff than Home Depot or Lowes.

I think this may be the salient (and kind of bizarre point)--check the pricing on various sizes. The fact that 5x10 (which most people buy) would be so much more expensive than 5x12 is insane--I can't imagine that big of a volume discount for them.

I didn't know there was a discrepancy between sizes, but it has been known that Reico is the cheapest supplier of Wilsonart. The only problem is there only located in mid-atlantic states.
I would personally rather buy a spray gun and UPW before spending over $100 on a screen.

I know you always say this, but I still don't get it. Painting is a big pain in the a$$. If you want a good looking screen, you are going to have to buy a substrate. Straight UPW will not give you any gain--the wilsonart does.
Buy the time it is all said and done, you'll spend hours more time doing the UPW screen to get worse performance to save less than the cost of going out for dinner. I just don't get it?
My time is worth way more than the delta between UPW and Wilsonart.

If you are looking for Wilsonart in the Toronto area I just got mine from a countertop manufacturer in Markham. There is a kitchen supplier in my area listed on the Wilsonart site, when I called them he suggested I call the company that makes thier counters. I had priced it through Rona at $104/4x8 or $195/5x12 (encountered blank stare when I asked what thickness they were quoting). They were not particularly helpful or knowledgable and didn't know how long it would take to came. When I called Janovski Counters (905 475-0185) the lady that answered the phone immediatly knew what I was talking about and seemed to qoute me a price for a 5x12 sheet of postform grade off the top of her head. it took about another 30 seconds to come back with a price for a 5x12 general purpose grade (thicker).
$100 5x12 postform grade
$161 5x12 general purpose
She appologized for the price of the general purpose and explained that they don't get a discount on it. She told me it would be in the next day if it was in stock and that they would make 1 cut for free.
Gave them my Visa number and less than 24 hours later they called to tell me in was ready for pick-up.
The kitchen place also gave me the name of a company in Peterborough; Postform Products (705 742-4545), but I didn't call them.

Excellent! Thanks, I'll see if I can look into this this week.

Dave,
You may be right. Looking at the cost at $15 a quart for Kilz and UPW then the substrate plus the sprayer. The sprayer can be used for other things though. You would probably be looking at around $80 to make a screen this way. If you want gain, then get a higher gloss UPW. That is how Wilsonart achieves its gain. As for the time, I just sprayed a door. It took about two minutes per coat. If you put on say four coats of Kilz and four coats of UPW, then you are looking at about thirty minutes. The rest of the time is waiting for the paint to dry.
P.S. - Oh I got your AVS PMs the other day. I don't log onto AVS that much, but I didn't realize it had been so long. Anyway, I think other people answered your question.

anyone ever use that 3/4" particle board with the white melamine coating on both sides? Home depot sells a 49" x 97" sheet for $30.00, no need to build a frame and it would be super easy to hang.

If it's what I think you are talking about then I believe I looked at it. If I recall correctly it was too shiny but I may be thinking of another material.

I compared it to a sample of wilsonart dw in the store lighting, it looked pretty close to the same in brightness and texture but it may be just a tiny bit yellower than the wilsonart.

I bet white melamine would be a tad on the shiny side, and would hot spot. Sure would be easy to try though, since you can also buy much smaller pieces of melamine shelving.

I guess if it was too shiny I could paint it and get a good surface. Is it available in bigger pieces than 49" x 97"?

There doesn't seem to be a standard surface for melamine. Clarence tried some from Home Depot and thought it was a great screen surface. I got the exact same SKU# from Home Depot but in a different part of the country, and you could almost see yourself in it. It was waaaaaayyyy too shiny to use for a screen. Apparently different manufacturers make stuff called "melamine" and it's not all the same.

My designer white came into the menards store yesterday. For some reason I decided to have the tech check it and I am glad I did.
there was a couple of black rub marks on it from where it was cut to length. The tech thought he could get it out but of all the solvents he tried nothing worked. So we rolled it back up and they will send it back. With that being said when we rolled it back up I think it may have picked up some sand on the cement because it was making some scratching sounds. I will check out the next one that comes in but I wonder if I will see scratches when I get it home.
Any advice? Also will house hold cleaners reduce the gain?

Samples come in metal and solid surface. Does this imply the material can also come this way? Anyone know what the heck the difference is?
