the website is still up. it talks about what they plan to do next year (2005)
too bad. would have been nice to have this evolved along with us.

I think maybe with all the excitement around HD-DVD and Blu-ray. Scaling SD does not created interest it once had. The very smart people that developed it have most likely moved on to bigger and better things. The BT chip that was once the mainstay of capture cards has more or less went away also.

John is working on a re-write of the Dscaler 5 MPEG-2 decoder. But progress is sloooooow. He's been re-writing it for more than 2 years now
His last post on that was some time in december last year in the Dscaler 5 IVTC thread on AVS forum.
The Dscaler video processing app is probably a thing of the past now (i.e. version 4 is the final version). His MPEG2 decoder is very good though, and with the IVTC mod it is actually the best decoder out there for 1080i film sourced broadcasts. Nothing else even comes close.

That is a shame. Good scalers are still very expensive and in demand.
good to hear that Dscaler5 is still alive.
ummm.... whats the difference?

It would seem that most Home Theater PC apps are no longer as popular as they used to be. Makes perfect sense. Back in 2000 when I set up my first HTPC to scale and play back DVDs, doing something of similar quality with a standalone scaler would have cost me x5-10 as much. Today you can buy a player for $99-$299 that has an excellent scaler built in *and* also plays hi-def discs!
Same with TheaterTek. It seems to have stagnated as well. I notice they price has been reduced from $70 to $50 too. Likely because nobody's buying. Who can compete with $99-$299 hi-def players?
Kal

The Unofficial modified version by Kzeuh is the only decoder that performs IVTC on 1080i material. So you get 24fps out of the TS stream, and smooth playback at 48/72/96hz.
This decoder has been key to my HTPC for the last few years (the TS file era ).
