Hey, Not sure if this qualifies as a good deal or not, but Circuit City is running the sony blue ray BDPS300 for $300.00.

My 1st choice is to buy at a local store rather than over the internet. If sometimes wrong, I can take it back same day and get another. And, I always get 30 days return policy.

Best Buy is also selling this same player for $299, plus 5 free Blu-Ray discs (I assume the 5 free discs come with the Circuit City deal also). Yeah, I'd sure like to know - is this a good player? Any playability problems? This is mighty close to my price.

Good player. Likely won't be upgradable to do some of the advanced audio formats in the future however... also slow to load like all other HD-DVD and BD players.

The S300 was the one I was waiting for but ended up buying a PS3 to get around the shortcomings. Only $99 more. A good deal and best solution even if you don't play games.

Costco is selling the Samsung BD-P1400 for $279 this morning, which is about on par with Amazon (which also gets you free shipping and no tax). I may be going this route if I cannot get the LG combo drive to work.

+1 on the PS3 - I have a BDP-S1 and I still use the PS3 more. Its much faster.

The only minor downside is the IR dongle.. but its a very small issue.

There is a $120-130 price difference between the standalone Blu-ray player option and the cheapest PS3. Even more if you buy the $20-25 Sony Bluetooth or 3rd party IR remote. While I have the 60GB PS3, I am researved at suggesting the 40GB PS3 over a standalone player.

HHmmm. Well, what are some of the differences "pros 'n cons" between stand alone blue ray and ps3?

Sam's Club has the Sony BDP-S301 - not the BDPS300 - for $277 plus change. I bought one. Hope it's decent, otherwise I'll return it.

Happy Holidays to you as well my friend. Looking foward to the day we hang out again!

We got a little splash here (about 10 inches) of snow so yeah, it's been a bit of a pain but thankfully, it happened over the weekend so no traffic issues for me. Very Happy

We definitely need to get together again soon.
