Is anyone using the 360 to upscale there movies to a projector by VGA?

How is the picture quality compared to an oppo or another good dvd player?

Is the upscaling crap or is it comparable?

Are there any problems with this setup, like an offset or anything?

You can't use 1080i with the VGA cable on the xbox360.

1080i is not an available output on the 360 via the VGA cable. It is only available via the Component video--talking about analog output, here.

I am talking a dvd scaled up by the xbox output through the component direct to the projector.

Ok, so why are you talking at all? You didn't mention this in your original reply (truly, we cannot read your mind Smile ), and we thought you were talking on topic (VGA). Its good to know in case someone asks, but ...

And I should add it was 1080 i not p. Sorry for the confusion. But the scaler in the xbox360 is not nearly as good as the quadscan unit I have. I also tried the PS3 and the scaler in there sucks also.

I have. Normally I use an HTPC for DVD playback. With all of the trimmings. Still wins out over everything that I have tried. Which isn't much, but...
As far as the Xbox 360 goes, the upscaled DVD looked very nice. Just not quite as "sharp" as the picture I get from the HTPC. Mainly due to software sharpness post processing.
If I didn't have the HTPC, I would be happy with the 360!

Darren

BTW, this is over VGA at 1080p.

During the so-called “Spring Dashboard Update” Microsoft enabled DVD upscaling over the VGA connection, so if you’re using VGA you’ll see movies in whatever resolution you’ve set in the dashboard. However, this is only over VGA. Also, with the Fall Dashboard Update, standard DVD movies will be upscaled to 1080p on displays that support it, again only over the VGA connection.
I'm currently leaving the 360 at 1080i to match the lazy assed setup of my 8500. I'll push it higher this winter when I get back into the HT and get the 145's and Joust Mods in, the screen repainted and moved, and the pj dialed in better. Then it will actually make a difference what rez I select. Embarassed
