Hello, I've read in several posts that the new Geforce 8800 don't work with powerstrip. What's the highest/fastest Gforce card(s) that will spport it?
Also anyone know why powerstrip won't work on the latest cards?

Latest Nvidia would be 7x series. They 8x series is not supported because nvidia has not released the documentation that Entech needs to make Powerstrip work. This is nvidia's decision.
The ATi 2900 is supported, and I would expect the 2400 and 2600 to follow shortly, as ATi is playing ball.
Ask on the Powestrip forum - go right to the source.

Not a bad idea. I just wanted to see the slant from the CRT'ers here.

I'm successfully running a Powerstrip beta (3.75 build 590) with my HD 2600XT. It was specifically created for the ATI HD 24xx/26xx series.

If you have a good scaler you can use any of the 8 series nvidia cards - plus there are drivers with advanced timings available - you dont need powerstrip

I've read thats because they don't need it. the functionality is built into the driver.

Why would you run a PC and a Scaler? I run a PC because I don't need or want a scaler.
Are the custom timings available for XP yet? Are they 2 or 3 decimal place accuracy?
The downside with the custom timings in the driver approach is you can't drive the resolutions with Shortcuts or Command lines.
I use Reclock to drive a VBS script which drives Powerstrip to change the refresh rate to match the source material automagically. You just play the video and 2 seconds later the res changes.
You can't do this with the driver timings approach.

Yeah, we would love to all be able to do this, and for an entire 10,000 DVD catalog.

OK - the more modern scalers do a lot more than just scale. Check out the Crystalio 2 (which I use). The PQ of all my display devices are much improved by this device - even (especially) my HTPC.
Even native (appliance) 1080P sources are improved significantly
Also, the dynamicVP feature on this VP will do exactly what you're software approach will do - automagically adapting output/timings etc

What do modern scalers do that I need?
- Noise reduction? Don't need it, only watch HD.
- Custom & matched refresh rates/res's? Don't need it, PC does that.
- Deinterlacing? Only need Weave, PC does it fine.
- Scaling? Don't need it. 1920x1080 into 1920x1080 doesn't need spacial scaling, and the temporal conversion to 96i or 100i works fine on the PC.
- Gamma? PC does that.
- Switching? Only have one source.
I don't need a scaler. I'm not playing in the same league as guys with $$$ scalers. PC works fine for me.
I wouldn't wish a PC on a guy who just wants plug and play, or those pursuing the ultimate at any cost. But HD-DVD on my XG LC at 1080i 96hz (no judder) via my PC looks great to me.
Guys I'll dig up some Reclock instructions for driving a VBS script.
You need 3 timings sorted first (maybe 2 if you're in North America). One a multiple of 29.97, one a multiple of 23.976, and one a multiple of 50 (or 25) for Aussie/Euro sourced material.

From all your raving about it I think I should look into reclock. Does it make a big difference with regular DVD's too?
