Hi There,

Just read the instructions....The screw is a cheap square head socket...Cute idea, as so far i couldn't find a proper one ! All too easy to round off the post with an adjustable spannner.

Tom,

See this link for exactly what needs to be done (step by step with pictures).

http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/HD144_lens_adapter_kit_MKII_Instructions.pdf

It's actually quite simple. The idea here is to give people options. Pay $X and get an all in one solution, or pay $ X/3 (roughly) and do an hour of work yourself.

yes they need to be modified. Not modified so much that they cannot be used in their normal function on an XG though. I'm not saying its reversible but the mod does not alter the mounts so much to be unuseable. You simply need to use some washers to hold the mount in its standard configuration.
But honestly. If you did this mod, you would never want to use them in the standard configuration anyway Mr. Green

Hi There,

Does it matter if its reversable or not. I wouldn't say Galens are particularly reversable. An Bjorns require rebuilding the projector asuming you kept the bits.

The important bit is that the Projector is not harmed and that the orgional lenses can be re-installed when sold....asuming the buyer did not want the upgraded lenses, or the seller wanted them for his next PJ.

I'd also expect the modified lenses to be quite saleable themselves anyway, so i'm sure someone could sell thier modded ones and pick up some un-modded ones and have change if so desired.

Don't quite get this, does this mean you guys will be selling pre-modded lenses, or that this solution will be a 1/3rd of galens/bjorns but require some work, or that people can make thier own versions, but these kits are easier ????

Hi, sorry - yes, that wasn't clear. I meant that this solution will be around 1/3 the cost of other "turn-key" completely done solutions already out there since you have to do about an hour's work yourself. That was Barry's original idea: Put together a lower cost solution for people that want to do a bit of the work themselves. (The good part is that the work is pretty simple - if you're comfortable with stuff like swapping out lenses then you shouldn't have a problem doing the work).

So now people have a choice.

Kal

Actually, I am looking for some lenses to offer a complete kit.
Either with the lenses outright, or as a trade in deal with only the lens mount bodies if you have your own lenses.

Barry, I've finally got my pj going with lenses attached. It's not an optimal setup (I need to move it a bit closer to max raster size, finetune focus, and adjust G2).
without all that I can definitely see more clarity in the picture so I'm happy with the puchase. I need to set up a few things better to really get the colors working.
I understand you have 1208. if that is correct I may have a few questions with setup. I'll post in separate thread as it is more specific to a PJ rather that this thread subject.
Thanks again, for the help in getting me the new lenses.

I'm not a Barco guy. I have Electrohome. I'll be happy to help as much as I can however.
I'm glad you are happy with your upgrade.

Kal is the local Barco expert.
I just got hold of a Barco mount to refine my lens adapters.

Would that be the Barco mount that I sent you ? Remember that was for a Sony Tube . Looks like you extended the focus range by adapting the range of the HD-8 focusing mounts . I still think Galen had the best design . This thread started awhile back . So whats the latest ?

No, I don't do that at all.
I mount the HD144 or HD145 directly. go read the FAQ.
I don't want to get into the argument of who's idea is better. Galen's idea is valid. it costs a LOT more and takes a LOT more time on his part therefor the cost.
My idea is simple easy and it works just as well.

I'll second that. The mounting is quite easy and it does work.
