Gary,

This quote is from the VIM-HD (Marquee board) thread:

Ah, ok, so that's the real reason: If you want gamma adjustment, you need to use the remote if you want the 20 step fine tuning beyond the little trim pot.

Kal

From reading over these various threads, all of the cards/boxes with gamma control will have a trim pot, like the KimCoder, but the remote control adds 20 finite steps after you set the trim pot.

Kal, please correct me if I'm wrong. Well . . . maybe not here in PUBLIC!!!! Very Happy Shocked Very Happy Shocked

Ah, I misunderstood. You didn't mean a 20 POINT gamma control (controlling 20 points along the IRE curve), but a 20 LEVEL control similar to the pot in the Kimcoder.

So: if I get an Advanced model, can I control its gamma with a universal remote? Or does the IR gamma control only work with the High End model?

And I still want to know about the gamma-boost's effect on Vpp...

GEbrown: Yep - that's the way I read it too: You use the trimpot to set gamma where you want it but then you can also use the the remote to adjust it up +/- 10 steps (whatever a 'step' may be).

So I may be completely wrong on this, but my understanding is that you will have as much control with or without the remote, but with the remote option you don't have to get the gamma EXACTLY right on the trimpot and can then fine-tune it with the remote (which may be easier for some people depending on where their PJ is set up).

I like the remote option myself as you can program in the switching of sources into your universal remote instead of trying to give one priority and have it auto-switch. If you have sources like me where my HD-PVR output is ALWAYS on (even when the box is technically 'off') it just doesn't work... so I need to be able to force switch between inputs.

Resale capability's also better if you get the full-blown version... but that's just me.

KAl

Forgot to mention: Gary - yes, you're right: it doesn't allow you to adjust gamma at 20 points along the slope. That would basically be impossible without some sort of PC interface with a user adjustable graph. Can't do that easily with 1 trim-pot and a couple of buttons on a remote. Smile

Are these cards IN STOCK now? Do we get a notice or anything (tracking number...), when it gets shipped? Ordered 1 a week ago (seems like 2-3 weeks) and was just wondering.

Thanks! Ron

Yes the cards are shipping. But be aware that Moome's going through them one by one and configuring/testing the cards based on what you ordered. This is not just a "box'em up and ship them" operation unfortunately.

He also has a bunch of pre-orders to get through first before he gets to the ones ordered here. Some of these people put down a down payment over 4-5 months ago.

I don't think he sends out notices either (no tracking number), unless you specifically ask for it. People tend to just come home and find that they got a package...

I know nobody likes to hear this, but with Moome you have to be very patient. He's been selling these sorts of cards longer than anyone else and so far all of his customers are happy and he makes things right if something is wrong. The only downside is the response time. It can sometimes take weeks before he replies (if at all) since he's so busy.

Thanks for the info KAL.

I just have to wait.

When others get theirs, I hope they will share how they are working.

Thanks! Ron

Received SONY IFB HDMI card in 11 days! Wow! That was way fast. I hooked it up in my PJ and the HDMI connect works GREAT! However, when I put in SOME of the DVD's that I either taped from old VHS tapes or copied from my store bought DVD's or from the TV, the screen is considerably smaller. (It's like have those black bars, only on top, bottom and both sides) It only does this on some of the DVD's, on others it's fine. Weird huh? Any ideas what in the world would cause this?? Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks! Ron

Seems the problem was the setting on my HD-DVD player, it was set to 16:9. I changed it to 4:3 and it now has a full screen. When it was hooked up through component on my IFB-12, the HD-DVD setting was still at 16:9 and it was a full screen, so I didn't think to check it right away. The HD-DVD player looks FANTASTIC! It looked blah through component and I was beginning to wonder what all the HD fuss was about. NOT ANYMORE! HDMI made a world of difference. LOVE IT!

I am thinking of running RGB HDMI out of my Sony Blu-ray (want to avoid RGB to YCbCr conversion) into a Radiance HDMI input Upconverting to 1080P and outputing RGB HDMI into my Moome HDMI card, does the Moome convert the RGB signal at all?

the hdmi card accept both rgb or ycbcr mode! if you feed rgb-mode , there will no color conversion on the card!

So RGB would be best to run since no color conversion?

it dependent on your player! some player has bug on rgb mode, that will induce black crash!

ACK!!! I was just about to place an order! Should have asked how quickly they were selling... Sad

I'm amazed that the Sony cards sold out before the Marquee cards, given that many people had bought the Sony JohnHWman card.

Given that it sold out in 2 months, do you know if Moome is planning another batch?

Moome may make another batch but with everything going on and the fact that there are other Sony solutions out there, he may not for some time.

I sent newsletters and updated the thread a few times to indicate that they were selling fast and were almost sold out! Sorry! You snooze you lose! Smile

Huh. I didn't see any "selling fast" notes and don't see one now, but that's my fault I guess.

The other Sony solutions (JohnHWman card, even HDFury) all use the previous-generation Silicon Image chipset, don't they? I got the impression a lot of the improvement in the IFB-HD came from the new chipset, and Moome's cards were (so far anyway) the only CRT-centered product using it.

Plus Moome's had the gamma correction, ohwellll...

Moome, you sold out in less than three weeks from first shipment. Better make some more!! Smile

Or maybe I should just get one of Moome's new external boxes, hmmm... Do we have any idea of the performance differences between an internal IFB-HD card and an EXT-HD card driving 5m of 5BNC cable? The EXT-HD has the advantage of switching 2 HDMI inputs, which is nice.

There should be no difference between the internal and external solution in terms of image quality if your RGBHV cabling is good. Some people may choose to opt for an internal solution however.
