Nice work, man! Your room is really coming together. That's some good quality work representing the "Iowa crew".

I'll be posting a thread on my room soon, too and we can compare notes. We might need to set up an "Iowa" meet - maybe this fall sometime! With as few of us as there are, we could do a "tour of theaters" in a couple of Saturdays - might be fun!

Congratulations!!! Man, we're like kindred spirits! CRT HT, Iowa, partially finished room, and a brand new baby in the house! My little boy came home from the hospital two weeks ago... haven't turned the projector on for over three weeks. If he doesn't start sleeping better soon, it's going to be a lot longer, too! Anyway, congrats!

She IS breastfeeding. It is much better let me tell you. Although she has staples in her stomach so I still get the nudge to "pick this up please."

Estimate in from Lowe's $1800 with premium pad and installation. The installer told me that Lowe's charges 30% on top of what he puts down for install. He volunteered to go under the table for his part to save that but still it puts it at about $1500!

I am contemplating doing a trim around the perimeter of the risers to prevent my installer from having to "roll over" the ledge. That way he can't charge me the "upholstering" fee.

Anyone thought of using different color carpet for the riser than for the floor?

No pad on the riser? Of course the pad isn't much money. I could use a cheap carpet for the riser since most of it is covered by the seating anyway and won't ever get walked on top of!

Anyone care to help. The carpet alone was over $1000. I was very tempted to just save up a bit and bite the bullet to get it done right but I can't help but wonder how much others would be. I will be calling in other people soon.

I had to spend just about $2k to do my 13x18 room w/6x9 riser. That was for a decent Shaw commercial carpet with a wool pad (recommended for my carpet). Your figure doesn't sound out of line. How long are you staying in the house? If you cut corners to save $500 now, long after you've forgotten about the money, the "cut corner" will be around to remind you of how didn't do like you wanted.

I paid $1200 cdn installed for Shaw 60 ounce nylon with the upgraded black underpad. The measuring guy overestimated so I had them reduce the quote but they forgot to reduce the carpet so I got a 12'x4' piece for free Smile

Just enough for the riser I hadn't decided on and would have ordered later (maybe).

Carpet always feels expensive until you see the finished result.
