12 18" subs in an IB driven by over 10kW in a 13.5 x 21' room!? And with just the first 4 subs she says the walls are flapping in the breeze!?!? That chick is CRAZY! The term "more money than sense" comes to mind... But I wish she'd bankroll a few upgrades to *MY* HT !!

Look at her pix of the screen. No room treatment, white walls, window/sliding door...bleh!
$2000 in room treatment would improve that HT experience far more than $15K of amps.
I'd still marry her though..

My theater is roughly 12' 6" x 18'x 3" and 1 SVS PC-Ultra puts a hurting on the room for most material. 8 18"s in IB configuration is just ridiculous.

I can't wait to see the Youtube video of the house falling in on itself. I'd be outside that sliding glass door with the remote the first time I powered it up.
She should be able to recoup the money she spent building it out over the next 20 years cause she won't have any cell phone or landline bills....she'll be deaf as a stone.
With everything rippling and moving...I suppose an ISF won't be required...unless she's just going to build on a bedroom for a live-in on-call tech.
Certainly can't watch any porn in that room....2 minutes of boomchuckawowwow music will tear it all down.

I saw that last week - I couldn't stop thinking about it. I LOVE overdone over-engineered extreme stuff... I mean, I love it. But even *I* thought that was ridiculous when I saw it. Even her signature smacks of stupid excess.
Let's see... take 15 JBL pro cinema speakers with horns that are already efficient and bright... that are designed to fill a large space with sound. Then, connect them to 50kW of pro amps - enough power to easily drive the JBL's to comfortable listening levels in probably a HUNDRED THOUSAND cubic feet. Then, cram it all into a space ONE FIFTIETH of that size. The SPL that could be achieved in her tiny room (incidentally about the size of my room) would be nothing short of dangerous. A slip of a volume knob or accidental raising of the gain/unmuting situation that, in any othe theater would be a nuisance, could in this girls theater result in substantial permanent hearing loss.
That isn't excess, it's just plain stupid. There is no reason (or need) whatsoever for that kind of headroom. In fact, that's not headroom - it's just simply waste. You could easily achieve comparable results for a quarter of what she's spending - especially with good sound treatment - and have much higher quality gear instead of just brute force quantity. She's going to have a top fuel dragster that she'll use to drive to the grocery store.
I guess I'm a little jealous of having the disposable income she must have to do that, but I sure wouldn't spend it the way she is/did.

Man, the title of that thread should be the "*Future* Darwin Award Theater". There are going to be some serious air pressure fluctuations in that room.

it was actually a very benign thread, at least last week when I saw it and did post for her to put up more pix so I could constructively critique it. Her attitude seemed to be that adding more of everything would help her substandard sound.

There's still a thread for it in the DIY speaker forum.

BTW, one thing that struck me about her was that she seems to be one of those types of people who are really hung up on what stuff costs. She can't just mention a certain piece of equipment (i.e. JBL Pro speaker) without throwing in the MSRP of it.

I think they moved the thread to the speaker builder forum. All of the pix that I saw in the HT forum thread are now in the speaker builder thread.
She's still insane. While she's doing research which is good, she's beyond over the top on this.

I don't know if she's being "showy" with the MSRP stuff, or she's just excited about putting together what she thinks will be a super high-end system... on a budget (relatively speaking). She's obviously an enthusiast to be spending that kind of money and putting that kind of effort into the system - even if it is somewhat misguided.
I do have to respect her somewhat for not just going out and getting whatever expensive consumer gear she could find at the local boutique store. She certainly could have afforded some very spendy "audiophile" gear and ended up with just another audiophile system that doesn't sound that great for what she spent. At least, she's going "extreme" and won't have what every other person with $40k would do - even if it isn't necessarily the best way to spend the money.
I'm still not convinced she's a "she", though. Most obsessive-compulsive guys aren't even that crazy about A/V. If she is a "she", then she's definitely an aberration.
I just still can't believe somebody would go to all that expense and effort for a room like that. I think it's like putting a 750hp motor in an AMC Pacer with donut spares on it. I guess she can move most of the equipment if she decides to move or build a new room, but man... all that work - to end up with a house that will be virtually impossible to sell without spending a lot MORE money to put everything back to the way it was.
I guess she has a dream.

Heh.. good analogy: Wouldn't want to do it yourself, but given a chance to take it out for a spin...
