OK, I can see the need for two features if not too hard.
1) Create a "Political Discussions" forum instead of having them in the perhaps interesting "off topic" area.
2) Provide a mechanism for hiding forums so they don't show just in your list at the top of the index page taking up valuable space.
Thanks,
Dave

I do find it mildly annoying that ronnyboy has posted 55 times in the "CRT Projectors" forum and 542 times in the "Off-topic" forum...I don't care who's right or wrong, but can't you bother somebody else with the politics?

You didn't start the craze!
I don't mind you guys having fun, I just don't like it when 3 of my top links are these--I want to just eliminate them to make it easier to navigate.

Kal,
When you first came out with the "Recent Posts" listing at the top of the main forum, you suggested that you might make the length of the list user adjustable at sometime in the future.
I'm still interested in that feature.

I'll take that as a "I'll take that under advisement!"

I would like a button that knows what I need to search and finds only to topics that I want to read.
Could you have this in by midnight tonight please.

I'm totally with Dave.
I would like it best if we could subscribe to the forums we wanted to show up in the "preview" listings at the top.
I don't follow the political threads. No-body wants to hear my opinions on such matters.
I'd really end up creating an international incident.

Re: Creating a "Political Off-Topic Discussions" forum.
While I can appreciate the need to only want to show threads that you're interested in in the top "X" list on the main page, creating a another off-topic forum called "Political Off-Topic Discussions" isn't like to going to enough.
Someone will post something else in the "regular" off-topic forum that someone eles doesn't like and then I'll get another request to generate another forum. While people would like to somehow subdivide forums into ones that only interest them, it's never going to happen that easily as we'll never be able to please everyone. Like aspec2 said: There no way we can please everyone - asking for this is like asking for a search feature that only returns topics that interest you.
Not to mention that political threads don't always start off as political threads. The only way to really ensure that some of you never see anything 'political' is to get heavy handed moderators here to ensure everything stays exactly in line. I doubt you guys want that.
Like every other forum out there, I suggest you simply ignore the topics that don't interest you.
Like Dave said - I take all these suggestions under advisement. (Read: Most are a horrendous amount of development/testing work... really not worth the effort).
Kal

I have to say that I totally agree with making a separate forum for the political stuff, I know there will still be some cross contamination every once and awhile, but oh well. I pretty much have avoided the off topic forum for awhile now and have actually thought about posting a similar request. Just the titles of these topics irritate me and I want to like everyone here so I just don't read them. I really like this forum, the fact that its not moderated and all the people here, I just wish whatever your political opinions are, for the most part they could just be kept to yourself or posted on an actual political forum, I am sure there are tons of them out there. In my opinion all these topics do is cause problems between people with differing opinions, that would normally get along. I am not for censorship so if people want to keep it up thats their prerogative, but I think it would be really cool if there was some separation between politics and the cool OT links and jokes that are posted. I also like the idea of being able to filter the topics out, but I can understand if its to much effort for the benefit.
