Good morning all,

Was gifted an old Sony plasma. Decent TV for the kids. One thing I've noticed is that after it's been on for 30 mins, it develops a thin vertical line on the left end of the panel. Sometimes it's a different color than the rest of the content, and sometimes on red it's black. Anyways...

What should be a first step to troubleshoot/fix this? The set was made in 2004. I was going to take it apart and see if the cables need to be reconnected to the panel. Anything else? Thanks,

Bad panel or driver board. Generally, a bad panel.

Could you expand on this? I’m only really versed in the workings of CRT’s. Guess I’m a dinosaur. Smile. What’s going bad on the panel?

The panel itself it likely going. Do the stripes come and go, OR are they there all the time just changing colors?

Plasmas have two boards generally driving the panels, one for the X and one for the Y. Some sets also have small driver chips embedded into the plasma panel ribbon cables. If those go bad (possibly your problem, then the set is a throwaway.

you can also try reseating the ribbon cables on the boards.
