I'm using a Stewart Studiotek 130 for the G90. Nice gain, no sparklies and CRT optimized colorimetry. I'll be moving on to Sony laser pj (either VPL-VW995ES or VPL-VW915ES) next year. Is Studiotek 130 G3 still the best option or would I see some benefits from the Firehawk material?

I have little experience with Stewart Studiotek 130 (other than a small sample I have from way back when I was shopping for screens myself) or laser projectors, but if you were buying all over again I'd imagine ideally you probably want closer to unity gain as both projector's are fairly bright (over 2000 lumens) so most screen sizes can be adequately lit up to the required ~14 ftL (or more).
I'd say if you're happy with the 1.3 gain screen (ie: fairly minimum colour shifting) then I'd just keep using it. While not the same screen or projector, I was very happy going from CRT to my JVC DILA digital on my 1.1-1.2 gain screen.

Nobody could offer useful screen advice without more info on how it's to be used.
The type of light source from the projector is less of an issue than overall brightness, screen size, projector mounting position and seating arrangement and lighting conditions in the room.
As modern projectors get brighter though, a regular diffuse white screen can often cause a washed out image on high contrast scenes. Like your typical New York at night scene which has bright whites next to dark areas.
They have various tricks to produce a dark all black screen from home theater projectors like wire-grid polarizers, turning the laser off for all black screens, dynamic iris etc. But... It only takes a tiny amount of light from a bright projector to make a white screen look gray instead of black - so contrast can suffer on real world content.
These days there are various options for contrast enhancing screens when you have brightness to spare. I.e. screens that help preserve decent black levels without harming white levels or color accuracy. I wouldn't limit the choice to just Stewart screens.
I use a Da-lite Parallax .8 gain for gaming. I don't rate them as lights on living room screens but they look nice in a dark or dim room. They produce a much sharper image than a Stewart Firehawk material. I'd take one over any white screen for a bright projector. They produce zero sparkles and offer near 180 degree viewing angles too.
For viewing with the lights on, I use a black screen with a bright projector. It produces the most Oled-like experience you can get from a projector.

The dark screen material really helps enhance contrast. There's no such thing as black light so projectors rely on total darkness to produce blacks. It's always going to be hard to keep a piece of reflective white fabric black when shinning a 2000lm flashlight at it....
An Oled TV can produce those inky blacks in part because the Oled pixel grid is mounted over a jet black background. To produce blacks, they simply turn those pixels off. If the pixel grid was mounted over a white background, the image would look as washed out as the first LCD TVs... Projectors aren't so different in this respect.
Either way, you don't have to decide yet. Get your new projector first. Then test it with your current screen. If you're happy with the results, just get on with your day...

my specialist retailer in New Zealand have a studiotex 130 in their demo theater.
I've seen 8" CRT, an epson and sony laser, jvc n5 and n7 projectors on the same screen.
All, looked stunning.
Didn't see anything untoward with the sony laser, or the epson either. other than beautiful punchy image.
room is a bat cave, fwiw.

Yes, that's the best screen material, but please please please call me before you do this Haydn. I can give you far better options for much less money with immensely better image quality. Seriously.
Best,

I'll definitely do that. The new HT will be installed in Europe so any alternatives will need to be available over there. They would also need to be acoustically transparent (speakers behind screen).

Call me on projectors though because you're sounding like you're about to go over a cliff
Are you finally bailing Hayden? Had enough of the madness?
