Thirty-five months ago I purchased an Acer ET430K 43" 4K60 IPS computer monitor. It has worked flawlessly for those 35 months. Feeding it was an EVGA GTX 1060 via Display-port into the monitor's display-port. Both the video card and the monitor had DP and HDMI that will do 4K60 and I've tested all outputs and inputs and a variety of cables to solve my current problem, which is the screen suddenly began to flicker and does so to a point the IPS panel briefly loses power for 2-3 seconds.

The chassis LED indicator stays blue (on, signal detected) and I have shut off all power saving features, had run the monitor at reduced brightness, etc. The only way I have managed to get it to stop flickering into blackness is to reduce the resolution to something below its native. Everytime I see something like this I remember the old RoHS implementation of soldered joints and tin whiskers. And in case you didn't know, tin whiskers is the name they called the extrusion of a solder from its joint during thermodynamic flexing that doesn't happen with leaded solder.

The tin whisker makes contact with another conducting surface causing an electrical path that shouldn't be. Now I doubt that is what I am experiencing, but I've learned to not buy from Acer again as it seems people are complaining a bunch about this on their monitors, including their expensive ones ($1K-2K)

But I am not sure I am quite ready to just put this nice IPS panel out on the street. I'm suspicious it might be something related to the power supply, but I have not component level diagnostics since the 1980's. I did notice someone selling a salvaged PSU for this exact monitor in eBay, but I wondered what the folks here might suggest?

I'm having some trouble with Acer monitors too.

I've been using a 24" Acer S242HL for years with no problems. And it still works fine, when you're using it. But when the screen saver shuts it down, it gets flaky. My laptop plays the "device unplugged" "device plugged" sounds every 10-30 seconds or so. I swapped out monitors and it stopped, so it's definitely that monitor.

My son replaced the 27" Acer G276HL in his system with a couple of fancy curved screens, so I gave that a try. Worked flawlessly for a couple of weeks. Then it started blipping in/out of a "full screen of random static" state every few seconds. It did that for a while, but never long enough to force me to dump it. After a day or three of that, *poof* no problem. Hasn't done it in weeks. Then last week it said "Input not supported" a couple of times when it awoke from screen-off state. I had to reboot Windows to clear it. Did that a couple of times, and then nothing since.

So I dunno, Acers just may be flaky??

Sounds like a bad power supply. Go over it with Tin/lead solder on all the joints and look for puffed/leaking capacitors. I've resoldered quite a few things like this and off we go.

AR, are you recommending that to Wan, or me, or both?

Yes. I use dozens of DVD players in my Halloween display and I did this to all the flaky ones. Re placed a few caps too. All worked well after that.

I did a recap/resolder on 6 or 7 LCD monitors 5 years ago and they are running strong too.

I find the resolder trick is especially good on anything that gets moved around allot.

I did just discover it would work perfectly if I use a ten year old Monoprice el cheapo HDMI cable with ferrite cores on both end. I just cannot phantom why it worked before and without changing anything it stopped. Problem is seen in both Windows 10 and Linux Mint. I figured it might be the PSU (capacitors) which would explain why Acer wanted it returned for repair for a firmware update (BS). But not having the proof of purchase they told me they wouldn't open a case even under the last month of warranty.

Ahhh digital, pain in the ass. I wonder if the power supply is putting out RF.
WAN, put an AM radio near the monitor and see if you get allot of interference on it. It's a cheap RFI test.
I suspect this might be the case because you got it working with a chocked cable

AM radio? What kind of person do you take me for? First, I haven't listened to a radio in a long, long time. And when I had it was analog.

Yes, an analog AM radio. Very handy tool for instances like this. Now stop being an elitist and go get one,

Everyone who repairs modern electronics knows to avoid ACER like the plague. They always fail, it's a given on most units.

I have also stopped repairing flat panels of any make except for resoldering suspect areas (HDMI port pins, multi-pin connectors etc), reseating connections, or replacing caps on the PS board. I only seem to get about a 30% chance of actually fixing it if it's not one of those simple things. Once you start to actually have to put money into it, it's probably better to dump it. I do usually take the boards out and sell them on eBay though.
