Certainly sounds like an electrical component like a capacitor that when discharged precipitates the issue but once charged takes time to fall below that critical voltage.
I have an analogous issue with red tube drift. Once the G90 is warmed up the red aligns correctly and is good until the set is cold again. Learned to live with it and just turn the pj on for 15 mins before I plan to watch anything.

That is what I'm thinking, just live with the problem. Of course, I'm afraid it might get worse, or even, go away. Fixing something intermittent, from my experience, is tough to track down. Not only that, replacing components on these boards is tough to do. I did some inspection and testing, but could find nothing that looked bad.

Did the same thing, on start up, a wide (1/4 the screen) band across the top portion of the screen that's a scrambled mess. The very upper portion of the screen and the lower portion of the screen, looks fine. This goes on for a minute or so and then is gone for good. This is on input A RGBHV showing my desktop of my computer. When I brought up the Menu, the Menu would be affected too.
Now the PJ started with a all white screen and did not show this problem and when I went into the internal patterns this problem did not show either. Would not the deflection board affect anything the PJ put on the screen? |
It would be WHOLLY helpful if you got around to posting a photo of what this distortion looks like on the screen. I could probably immediately give you a very solid guess if I actually could see the distortion.

Wow, I just saw this post and my G90 has been doing the same thing for a couple years now. It only does this
from a cold start and starts about a minute into warm-up, and lasts for about two minutes at which point it goes away. It is a distortion at the top third of the screen, and I have assumed it is a bad transistor somewhere and could locate it possibly using a cold spray can. But I have no idea where to look; a lot going on in the G90.
By the way the projector is ceiling mounted in my basement theater. Other than that start up glitch, it has been flawless.
Like others have mentioned, I start the PJ about fifteen minutes
before the show starts to let it warm up. The problem won't recur until the PJ is cold.
I have uploaded a video of the pj start up from cold start.
Four short iPhone videos have been combined into one and the
resolution has been downgraded, but the effect is still seen.
The color shifting is a result of the recording device as is
not seen with the eye.
Is this the issue others have seen? and if so has it been
diagnosed to a particular replaceable board.
*I have uploaded a second video with better resolution.
