Matrox got a reputation for incredible 2D desktop and DUAL head VGA output. Like this one from 2000 with 32Megs ram :

I remember using those dual-port Matrox cards... hot sh*t back in the day, even in a corporate environment.

I remember this card! It was my 2D card due to the DAC image quality (like you mentioned) whle my 3Dfx Voodoo1 card handled 3D.

I used to drive past their offices in Montreal all the time in the 90s when I lived there...

I thought you might recognize that one Gary. You sent it to me. I found it in storage a couple weeks back. Post mark was March 19, 2011 Laughing

I **did** !? I used them for a while at HP, but I never owned one myself. Maybe I scooped it out of the recycle bin at work and sent it on to you...?

Hi...Probably the monitor, but it could also be any component here. I see PATA ports and an AGP slot. Judging by the HSF, probably a Socket A along with some sort of X800/X1800 card. Could also just be refusing to output a certain resolution because reasons.
I'd personally pull the CPU as a souvenir and then send the whole lot to the electronics graveyard, including the keyboard.

New guy; what the hell are you talking about?

I've deleted their account and post.

This is a typical spambot maneuver to try and get backlinks to some external site to improve their Google score (SEO). It goes something like this:

- They use automated tools to look for forums and find ones like ours and they sign up.
- These tools then look at the type of content in various posts. In this case they probably found discussions on PC monitors or PC components.
- They then search for similar content on other forums that would seem to 'fit in' here. In this case this post can be found if you Google it. The exact same post, word for word, is found here: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/problem-with-vga-port.259331/post-4119124
(This is not something they wrote over there, it's just something that they figure will fit in here and may go unnoticed by users in the thread and moderators. It obviously makes sense over there, but not here.)
- These automated tools may also be intelligent enough to post in threads like this that have gone dormant for a while so that their post is less likely to be noticed.
- THeir post doesn't stick out as spam as there are no links or anything spam-like. It may appear out of context like happened here. Sometimes someone will ask "what the hell you talking about?" as you've done. Wink
- They wait a few days for people to forget, and then they edit their post and embed a link to some external website. When posts are edited, other people in the thread (and moderators) do not get notifications so it's less likely to be noticed and removed.
- They now have one extra backlink to whatever website they're trying to promote and (in theory) their google rank goes up slightly. How Google ranks is a closely guarded secret but backlinks are assumed by many to be a big part of it. That said, Google seems to be smart enough to figure out when something's a scam. From time to time I get panicked emails from someone at a "real" company asking me to remove links from our forum back to their site. I've noticed that quite often these backlinks are to small companies or stores that do seem legit and not spammy themselves. I've talked to a few of them about it, and a couple of them have mentioned that they had hired some (obviously questionable) firm to help with their internet marketing and this firm had outsourced SEO to some offshore company that, turns out, does this sort of spamming. Contract is cancelled and the original hiring company goes into panic mode and starts emailing forum admins all over the place where links have been placed to have the links removed because the results in terms of SEO are actually worse than before (they're ranking LOWER in Google than before they started).

*#$&! spammers.

Kal

Yeah I knew it was spam but I was hoping he would respond so I could pick him apart.

I'm bored... Smile
