Guys

I am updating my BlendZilla Setup Guide as the Video Essentials disc is available on BluRay and is easier to use than a PC-generated test grid like Align.

I use a small laser level to set the horizon, then work towards the edges from there. The green grid shows up nicely with the red laser.

You would never suspect you are looking at two images from six picture tubes!

I'm sure the picture is fabulous!

But that said (and I mean this with the utmost in respect Tim), do you not find it runs incredibly loud and hot? The Marquee isn't the quietest chassis out there - I'd be hushboxing and ceiling mounting if I had only one, and with two the noise is doubled. It would completely ruin the dynamic range of the audio, and I've always found that sound is easily half the experience and simply turning up the volume doesn't move the noise floor.

The BArco 909s aren't the most quietest units either, but the fans are in the back, and I sit right in front of the lenses. You can definitely hear them, and they do heat the room nicely in winter, but fan noise is never an issue for me. Not hushboxed, either.

Also, I have to say, that test pattern is a really nice screen shot, better than a bunch I've seen on any CRT website online. Smile

Noise is always an interesting discussion as I find it depends on the person. Some are bothered by it, some aren't.

I came from a 2-channel audio world so when I went CRT in 2000 I was concerned as I found my Barco 800 really noisy (and it's considered one of the quieter units out there).

Some others don't notice the noise from NEC XGs. Wink

Guys

Only the lvps fans pose a problem---cheap $3 fans with bearings that sound like pepper grinders. I drop in some Papst fans and mount them in acoustic foam. Not a whisper. Standard on every projector I sell.

I take four or five shots of each screen I want, all hand-held. And only use the best ones. Some won't be focussed and some will have a blur because I moved slightly. Only the best for you guys! LOL

Guys

I was watching the movie Red 2 on BluRay, which looks very good in 2.35 aspect. Parts of the Special Features are 1.78 and were amazingly crisp:

Almost three-dimensional. And a great funny action comedy, as is Red.
