Come on old guys. Some of you must have typed your way thorough c:\cd dosgames back in the day.

What did you play? Were you a Leisure Suite Larry type? Maybe a F1 Grand Prix - World Circuit guy? OR good old GTA 1 with its top down carnage?

What was your fav'?

Tetris (1984)
Prince of Persia (1989)
Wolfenstein 3D (1992)
Doom (1993)
Duke Nuken 3D (1996)

Enjoyed adventure games too:

The Secret of Monkey Island (1990) - Generally enjoyed the LucasArts games a lot more than Sierra On-Line
Leisure Suite Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards (1987)

Loved some of the 'cutting edge' games too like Wing Commander (1990) and Ultima Underworld (1992) and later System Shock (1994)
- all by Origin. They really broke new ground there.

Kal

I loved Duke3D a lot. Quake 1 not as much though I did play that quite a bit too. Anyone remember Quake 2? Whateverhappendtoit?

Wingcommander 4. That was a great game. I played it all the way through twice! Then played it again 10 years ago when Kal sent it to meThanks Kal! ( I loaned my copy out to a friend and never saw it again along with the dual Pentium Pro Compaq PC I lent him, grrrrr )

I played some Leisure Suite Larry. Afterlife. Xwing vs Tie Fighter. Comander Keen. Hmmmm so many I'll have to think about it s'more.

Then of course there were the games that ran in dos under Win95. Slowed things down a lot. I use to enjoy the "restart computer in DOS mode" tremendously.
<dos_snob>It got rid of all that Winblows crap and let the pure DOS rein.</dos_snob>

Yep! I used to have 3-4 boot 'versions' in config.sys / autoexec.bat, tailored for whatever game I wanted to play.

Duke3D was great - played that thing all the way through in COOP mode over modem with a friend of mine. It was really well balanced for coop play which is rare.

My buddie and I use to play Duke3D head to head, direct connected at 9600 baud 'till 6:30 in the morning. Then sleep for an hour, get up and go to work for 8am Laughing

I remember modifying my config.sys and autoexec.bat files. Had to unload IDE motherboard drivers to get some games to read. Finally switched to a SCSI ISA card and a 2x CDRW drive.

The one I remmeber most though was Win98 booting with "TV DUMP FLAGS" WTH were they anyways? Laughing
