Like several other AVS'ers, I've been working on a digital movie poster lightbox, as some bling outside my home theater.

And I've built up a 2500+ poster collection, and have it on a Google Drive for sharing, if anyone is interested.
I will be expanding those posters to 1080x1920 pixels with a band of color added, to back light cut out lettering
in a 1/4" aluminum plate I plan to have water cut.

I was planning to reuse an older 40" LED LCD hdtv, but after I talked a Best Buy salesman into testing a few files
via a usb port using the internal slideshow player of a 42" LG IPS hdtv, I decided to go all in, and bought that set.

My plans are to simply use a 16G usb jump drive and put posters in various folders for playback. The folders would be themed based.

If anyone is interested in downloading posters, give me a pm with an email address and Ill set you up for downloading access. I put up a sampler folder with a diverse range of posters as quick and easy test run for people. Just download them and put on a small jump drive and run them via the built in media player of your hdtv.

A couple of posters converted to 1080x1920, showing off the color band for backlighting the "NOW SHOWING" cut out.

1080x1600 pixel sample posters, if one just decided to simply mask off 320 pixels of a hdtv. You can see the quality
of the posters on a computer monitor if you display them at default size, which avoids rescaling but will give you 1080x160 pixels black bars top and bottom.

Got around to doing some testing with 2" tall stencil style lettering. The photo quality isn't great, but they do show
the cut out text off. Might push the size up to 2.25"

Low quality video of the internal media player running posters via usb "KISS".
(Live, the artwork ranges from really nice, to outright stunning.)

Still haven't settled on the cut out lettering blurb, so haven't committed to
water cutting the aluminum faceplate....

I've also added some 2160x3200 posters, as test material and to check out
file sizes, since Google drive upped the free storage from 3G to 15G

Thanks. The project is coming together nicely. Win10 just broke and there's a new X99 editing computer ready for software and
Photoshop Element 13 was bought recently. There's about 3,500 posters ready for the addition of the color bar. I guess that qualifies as a series of projects.

The Google Drive could use some refinement in organization, but I'd like to focus on the new computer and water cut
face plate next. If anyone has other text cut ideas, I am stuck at SHOWTIME, NOW PLAYING, and COMING SOON and
a theater name, as options. That's the only hurdle to dropping the plate off for water cutting.

No name really....

I've considered it calling it the deuxPlex, or something allowing for a little bit of trendy lettering.

Not as cool as Theo's Roxy 2.0, but that's the vibe I am aiming for with a small lobby/wide hall outside
the theater. My equipment rack is built in, right outside the theater doorway similar to Theo's. So it also strikes
me that all that center "waste" of the aluminum panel might make for some standoff lettering for a theater
name (and a new hose address panel perhaps).

It's also the fourth major renovation of my theater space, so any theater name could be a have a 4.0 designation. Wink

Messing around with 2160x3200 4K posters also. And learning more about Google Drive.

It's a jpg and to maintain it's 40x27 ratio, it's not a full 9x16 panel, so that might have them looking slimmer then you'd expect.

And when the image is rotated, it appears if there's some sort of compression savings going on. An upright image seems to be larger in size, then when it's given a wide/short profile. So I have noticed that going on, but it's all guessing on my part...

I expected larger file sizes, but they are actually pretty manageable. There's been a few surprises on the learning curve. Smile

Just rotated an image to check things out and see how much difference.

NONE!

And then the Tron poster that has the blue colour bar added, is reported as being over 4X the size as the one without the colour bar?

I have NO idea......... Confused

I need to position a 1080x1600 image to the very left most section of a 1080x1920 frame and do so on a large scale. Anyone know how to write a batch file to do so, in the Window's world?

I'm not certain, but I think that Irrfanview's batch operations might let you do that…

See e.g. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/50519/simple-batch-conversion-using-irfanview/

Lots of posters on the Google Drive now, fleshed out with the color bar, if anyone is interested.

I have 2 flat screens waiting for a 'getaroundtoit' repair that would be perfect with these.

The reuse of an existing hdtv that has been replaced by a newer model is one way I see this as a budget project.

Another is the purchase of a Black Friday hdtv.

I also see where one could also put an older computer to use, as a more flexible front end. My currents plans are to add CollectorZ media software to a computer dedicated to this task. My media collection has become very large, and I am now starting to house 2 movies per Bluray case. CollectorZ will then have the location of the movie, added to it's database.

There is about 800+ 1080x1920 posters (with color bar), now available on the Google Drive, for downloading. I have been mostly cherry picking the best posters so far. Her's a small sampler of my "Action" folder.

Black Friday is coming...... Wink

I have been busy uploading posters to my Google Account, for sharing my work.

Here's the current poster collection of the "Action" folder, so there's lots of posters for anyone wanting to skip the art work stage.
