As of May 2017, are there any projectors (digital) that can get believably dark enough that your eyes don't know if the projector is even on (without the iris tricks)?

I have a 1209 i'm putting up right now but I keep thinking to myself that I'd like to have a really good option that doesn't cost a bajillion dollars that could get way darker than my Epson 8350 (I always leave its auto iris thing off, it just doesn't work well) and not break the bank ($2000-$4000 range).

I ask here b/c I'm looking for discerning individuals' opinions b/c I can't seem to find a place in Colorado to go view the projectors in action.

I'd like 4K but 4K is so far away for me that its not super important yet.

Any thoughts from you all would be great!

JVC RS500.

A good friend of mine has one (i bought his RS45 from him) and it does black well enough to satisfy all but the most spoiled rotten anal retentive cave dwelling CRT enthusiasts. Even I can't complain about the black level of the older RS45 and that does not do black as well as the RS500.
