Yeah, just kicked out a 21'' Eizo which could resolve even higher than full HD but was so heavy on the lap when used for preview on the couch. The LCD only does 1440 * 900 pixels which sucks.
Booze bottles don't shake but somehow I think the level is dropping unnoticed. You think ould have something to do with the sound?

How do you keep the drum heads and cymbals from ringing. I too have a drum kit in my Theater/Bar/Studio and you can actually hear the drum kit "ring down" if you mute or pause from high levels. I cover mine with rings I cut from carpet. It helps alot just covering the top heads and the cymbals. When it time to play I just pull "the covers" off.

Just wanted to post some pictures of my front speakers before going to the next change. These are the Atlas DSM MKII, DIY speakers of the german supplier Visaton. Currently they are placed behint the AT screen and the WS21bf Chassis has been replaced by the GF200 to make an Atlas DSM MKIII. Those speakers from the 90ies were given the nick name teleohone booth. The are 4 way and have an internal bass driver to prevent standing sonic waves inside of the box.

Digital Revolution
Okay, it's not that bad. Just switched from VGA to HDMI output for Audio and Video. BUt that was only a spin off of the real revolution
active front speakers
For movie soundtracks the Behringer Truth B3031A are really a step up in quality at only a 10th of cost. Looks like David vs. Goliath but guess who won. Not really usable for stereo though. Such a shame the big amps and front speaker had to go. Since the power amp is no longer a limiting factor I decided to go for a more modern and much cheaper HDMI AVR and finally get rid of the HTPC soundcard. Currently experimenting with a Denon AVR-2309 but not yet sure this will stay.
Yesterday I tried To change the HD10 lenses for GT17 and almost dropped the projector. Hope it will be worth the work.
Still to come is a serious subwoofer setup. A DCX2496 digital x-over and 5 speakers are waiting to be installed.

Time for another update. Lots of changes in room acoustics and speakers.
The room really had to much damping so we removed all the curtains and plasterboard panels. Also a lot of the mineral fibre absorber had to go. Early reflections are now scatterd by DIY diffusors built from styrofoam board. There are 2D PRD panels on the ceiling and 1D QRDs on the side walls. The room now sounds much more comfortable.
Speakers are now studio monitors all around with Mackie HR824 in the front and surrounds from Samson Rubicon 6a and Behringer B3031A.
My personal highlight are the subwoofers. 4 pcs of a custom 18" driver in 160 l closed box powerd by a Behringer INuke NU6000DSP amp. Later on I might post some measurements, those speakers literally kick ass.

Clean your smartphone lens!
Looks great!
Only question I have, is when you watch comedies, who sits at the drumset to give yourself rimshots?

Thanks for your comment.
Actually this is a quite new Canon Ixus 160 and I am just reading the operating manual. Auto focus seem to have issues with the low light or something.
The drum set was banned for about half a year until some Canadian CRT geek posted a video of 350 italian drummers. No kidding, I brought the instruments back in just that weekend.
Cheers

What panels are you using in the ceiling and on the walls?
Edit: re-read more closely. Any more information about those" DIY diffusors built from styrofoam board. There are 2D PRD panels on the ceiling and 1D QRDs on the side walls"?

Re design of the panels check out google. I used this and QRDude.
You can cut styrofoam with a hot wire, I bought a cuttor on ebay for 50 EUR or so. For the PRDs, instead of 4 types of blocks I cut 12 types of rows. A wooden pattern to guide the wire cutter helps.
Used REW to check fpr early reflektion. Attached is the front right speaker as an example (a 95 db sweep is loud!). The Reflection at 1.4 ms is present at all 3 front speakers and comes from the front wall. After this measurement was taken it was dampened with 10 cm of Basotect (open pore melamin foam) between the speakers and the wall. I will show the new measurement later.

It broke my heart but the CRT had to go (ready for free pick up).
My basement finally went digital. It's a JVC DLA X30 with an Isco 2 anamorphic lens to light my curved screen. compared to the NEC it's a real compromise in picture geometry, colour convergenc and ther are still edge sharpness issues. Over all sharpness is better though. Main improvement: the image is brighter (even in full black picture conten )
speakers are all active studio monitors (5 Mackies, 4 Behringers) + 4 18 inch subwoofers. Yes, I upgrade to a 5.4 Atmos configuration. Was it worth it, not yet sure. at least the sound is not significantly worse than before.
