So one of my really awesome high end clients just gave me a nearly brand new SME Series V Tonearm. I know, I'm still almost shaking I'm so excited!!!

I am thinking I will mount it to my VPI Scout TT and scrap (or sell on eBay) the JMW-9 unipivot tonearm that I have never liked. I'm a little nervious to mount the SME V to the Scout though because I don't want to put holes in the TT in case I decide the V is just too good for the Scout and decide to upgrade the entire TT. I'm thinking of doing a test run with the V on the Scout using double sided tape to hold it in place. Honestly though, I love almost everything about the Scout except the tonearm and the name "Scout."

Am I crazy? Thoughts?!?

Still very excited...

Happy to take it off your hands Laughing Just mount it and enjoy. Have someone machine a nice looking cover plate for the hole that is not being used. I don't think having a second mounting option will devalue the TT to much at all.

You may be right. I actually think it may mount in the existing hole anyway. It just is supposed to be screwed down into the TT or their mount or something else.

I'm going to RTFM tonight. I hope I can find Saturday to install the V. I was supposed to work Saturday but my client postponed Very Happy

I know, it does... I'm still kind of shaking. I do feel that I totally suck Mr. Green but I'm loving it!

The level of generosity is seriously overwhelming to me.

So.... what is the word? have you set it up yet?

I was reminded of this thread when I came across a very cool old transcription tonearm last week ( ..not in the same ballpark.. Smile ) a NEAT GA-5, which was a Japanese clone of a Gray 108 fitted with an original style GE golden classic cartridge. a really cool old viscous dampened unipivot arm that is now on my bench of Future projects.... I am thinking a retro TT build with an old transcription TT and a a custom wood or stone plinth...
