Hi everyone

I'm complete newbie in CRT projectors.
I woudn't mind registering here, searching all that stuff etc if not that occasion:
http://olx.pl/oferta/projektor-video-aktualne-CID99-IDeZ7LB.html#86425c9349
L

I've seen few materials on youtube about Barco projectors some time ago, and their "fanclub", and back then i could just imagine how cool it could be, to own one of such things.
And voila, i got one similiar thing completely for free.
I had no guarantee that this will work, basically. I took it, came back to my home and plug PS1 via SCART... and nothing.
Just 3 leds were turned on.

So i started to tinker around. I took off the cover [did nothing more! i swear!] and found out that REX Elettronica RVT 150 -is in fact- Seleco SVT 150.
A bit of google and i found this nice site:
http://www.adrian-kingston.com/SVT180.htm
Explaining parameters and how to set up a bit newer model, but [i guess?] almost same.
It wasn't enough, because i didn't know how to turn this thing on.
I found manual for my exact model here: http://www.curtpalme.com/Seleco_Downloads.shtm

Quickly found that 3 leds means that my projector is actually in standby state. It also means that i need to have remote to get it working.
Sadly, there was no tv shop around which could have such remote [in my whole country!](the closes one is in germany, and the remote is quite expensive, and is not even an original one).
I decided to buy today two universal ones. Both programmable [at least, they contain actual codes, not sure if they can "learn" new ones]:
- URC-22B-PR UNIVERSAL FERNBEDIENUNG [catchy name huh?]
- UET RM-788 UNIVERSAL REMOTE CONTROL

Both of them have in base codes for Seleco and Seleco-based TVs and VCRs.
I started do experiment and use one by one, then "shoot" my projector with them. I found few working ones with both remotes.
They work very weird, I'm pressing one of the digits for switching the channels and my projector is reacting to this but just for a second, and immediately turns itself again to standby.
If i make to many tries i will "block" the unit, and i won't be able to do anything, so i have to turn it off and on again by main power switch.

Also, in manual there is a chapter "SWITCH ON". There is a note which says that if i press the power switch instantly, the projector will go to standby state, but if i turn it on holding it with a few seconds, it will go to "P 1" or any memorized channel before.
Sadly it is not reacting on holding the power switch too.

I'm completely lost. Looks like a fairly simple problem to solve/repair, but i don't want to crash it.
My knowledge with CRTs isn't great. I've once tried to move the picutre in and old Sony Trinitron.
I crashed the whole geometry, and at the end i've found where was the place that was holding the image in proper horizontal position... but it was to late.
Now, learning on my own past mistakes I decided that i won't turn random potentiometers and check what will happen Very Happy.

Regards,
Kamil

PS: I can record a short movie if this is necessary

Very strange, you should not be able to post a blank post.

Very strange indeed, but regardless of the problem with the SVT 150, it will be difficult to repair, as minimal service information is out there, and I didn't think any were left out there still being used. It is a video only model, I threw out all my service information on them at least 5 years ago.

I am assuming that the set is sensing a fault condition in the set, and is then shutting down. I don't think a service manual is available for this unit, it's actually a later unit than I am familiar with. Seleco went out of business a bunch of years ago, the trick would be to find the manual, and then find a tech that can service the projector locally. I googled for the manual, and came up with nothing.

Somewhere around I think I still have the sales broacher for these. I will see if I can find it.
I think these use the Sony 07MS tubes. If the tubes are really good try and find a Sony VHP1041 1044 or 1031 and fit the tubes to it. I had a VPH1031 with 07MS tubes and HD145 lens. Great PJ to have fun with and learn from.

A quick reply, i dismantled the upper cover, and found out that the LED diode with code "DL601" which is on schematic here:

is always on. It basically means that the projector is in standby, but i don't think so, because there are 3 leds inicating this already, on the back panel for normal user. I guess it's sign of some failure, for technicians?

If you have the schematic, do you have the fault code chart?

Could you explain please? I have attached additional file to schematics with names of the PCBs. No such a thing like fault code chart. I've downloaded the schematics from here: curtpalme.com/Seleco_Downloads.shtm

*bumping topic*

Found out here https://www.avforums.com/threads/svt-150-power-problems.226098/#post-1792587 , in gazzman's post the thing about LED indicator.
What does it really mean if my SVT 150 is "entering the protection mode"?

it means there is a problem with either beam deflection , vertical or horizontal, or internal video processing board , etc. that would damage the tubes so the set is shutting itself down to protect the tubes.

It's a shame your in Poland, people here are giving away machines 10 times better than that thing

Well I'd love to get latest Barco in best shape but this is what came to my hands few days ago completely for free.
I've seen this movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iayWJ1_xros maybe year or two ago. I really wanted to at least have ocassion to buy such hardware. Not exactly same, but same technology.

So now with the knowledge about what the LED could mean, i have quite an excercise for that holidays till September.
Where can i find any further info about CRT repair? How to check/trace failure.
Pity i don't have oscilloscope, just multimeter and solder...

If it's free, now is the best time to decide NOT to spend any money on repairing it.

Sometimes, free isn't worth it.

Better CRT projectors can be had for less than what you may spend to fix that one.

you really do need a 'scope to troubleshoot where you're losing the H or v signal.

Hi again!

So, i borrowed a scope today. Pretty old but still very usable.

"Wrocław KR-7010"

The new problem is that the projector is built "modular". I hope it's a good word. By saying that i mean, that there are separate PCBs linked together with cables.
On a schematic, there are points, where i should touch the probe from oscilloscope.
It wouldn't be problematic but i don't know HOW to do that while the projector is assembled. Anybody tried that?
I aslo had an idea to power up separate PCBs, and then, measure them which would be much more easy and actually possible, but I'm still not sure if the presented diagrams includes load of everything put together, or just -this- point, on -this- PCB.

I'm really stuck at this point.

My unit looks like this now:

http://www1.zippyshare.com/i/vwNwHuzI/8494463/20160709_165334.jpg

Sorry for lack of space, but i didn't switch this on on a bed, that was just for checking potential blown capacitors and fuses]

That was the beginning state:

http://www1.zippyshare.com/i/8AAPd0ju/9212433/20160706_172849.jpg

How could I measure ceartain points under one of CRTs?! It's impossible!

Really glad for any help and replies.

Regards, Kamil

Hi after a long time.

About a week and few days ago, i decided to give my unit to CRT-specialized service.
The only one which could repair CRT tvs and apparently, such exotic devices as this one.
Today it turned out that most of the elements that are going through "hot" line are burned.
It will cost me about as much, as my rent Sad.

As of this stage, tubes are checked, but they need a little bit work too. The man from the service said that cathodes need to be revived / regenerated [not sure if i understood him well].

...And i'm stuck Sad not that often you could grab such cool piece of electronics, but is it worth investing? After all it's not as great as Barco series. It's a seleco's clone.

Sorry about bumping a zombie topic.

Regards Smile!
