I may as well add to this...
This is how my setup currently is right now. All of the components below are the actual components I have (except for the DVDO VP30 in it - That's there to represent a VP)
The only components I have not included in the diagram above are a blu ray player (since I've yet to actually get one better than the BDP-HD1), and my DAT Deck, Dual CD-RW Burner, and Cassette Deck (those are all pretty straight forward anyway). A TV source isn't above either, but that's because I am putting a cablecard into the custom HTPC to view TV on the projectors, as well as be able to stream it to any networked device in the house.
Also, I haven't added the surround/center/sub speakers, as mainly there wasn't enough room to in the pic below, and like the fronts, I have yet to determine what I actually want to do with the speaker choice.
Any HDMI source that doesn't have the green (Digital audio interconnect) is because audio is passing with the HDMI cable.
Again, this is about 75% of what I have setup drawn above, but it started getting pretty limited on space, so it doesn't show ALL of the equipment/configuration

I wanted to keep it as simple as possible.
What you see here is just the most important parts, i skipped a lot of things.
Apart from sound, i even didn't draw the couch as well as the PC power cord and the kitchen table behind the setup.

I've never bothered to diagram it. I'm good at almost instinctively understanding how to wire up complex systems.
But lately I've been thinking I really should just totally rework the system and kick a lot of equipment out that I don't even use anymore.
I have a 6.5 foot tall relay rack FULL of equipment. I use less than half of it.
My basic system is VERY simple today: Sony BDP as my movie source, I'd have to go look at it to see the model number and
I'm too lazy to bother with that right now. Video via HDM goes straight to one input on the Moome HDMI input card on my
9500LC Ultra and that is the ENTIRE video chain.
I have a Lumagen VisionPro HDP (recently replacing a VisionPro) that serves as my scaler on those occasions when I watch
anything that is of less than HD resolution. Which has been literally years. The output of the Lumagen is adapted to HDMI
and that goes to the other HDMI port on the Moome card.
I use an older Pioneer DV-525 DVD player as my CD player. It's so elderly that the front panel buttons do random things
when pressed. But it works fine with the remote. I'll run it until it's done. It's paid for itself many times over, and owes me
nothing.
I have a Pioneer Elite DVL-90 LaserDisc/DVD combo player in the rack, hooked up thru the Lumagen, but it hasn't spun a disc
in at least three years other than just to keep the parts moving and lubricated.
The audio path is just a 1987 vintage Pioneer C90 (Elite series before they called it the Elite series) stereo preamp which has
the virtue of having an incredibly low noise floor. WIth no input signal coming into it, crank it up all the way and you have to
almost press your ear to the speaker to hear any background noise. This model was actually described as the first truly
CD ready preamp on the market, having a lower noise floor than the CD medium itself. It is an absolute warhorse.
It feeds either a QSC MX1500A stereo power amp or a pair of Krell KMA-160 monoblocks. Speakers are Aerial Acoustics 10Ts
and the audio side of the system is exclusively stereo plus subwoofer. I have always preferred excellent stereo over second
rate surround sound and my limited room size precludes me from having many good options for installing a better surround system.
The preamp's output is split off into a set of equalizers that massively attenuate everything over 100 Hz, with this low passed
signal going out to a Peavey CS-800 professional power amp which drives the custom subwoofer in the corner. It may not be
the world's ultimate sub but it has been measured to generate 120 dB at 20 Hz in the room, which does include room gain as
the sub is in the corner. It contains two Infinity KCS-120BR 12" subwoofers. Enclosure volume is 8.5 cubic feet and it is
ported in a shelved alignment below 17 Hz.
Cranked up, the system can literally knock paintings off the hallway walls. It hits pretty hard.
There is also a Marantz 5.1 channel preamp/processor in the rack but it has been so long since it's even been hooked up to
anything that all it really is is a space filler in the rack. Probably it's "vintage" by now. My experiments with adding center
and surround channels were brief and not very satisfactory.
I am contemplating taking the Marquee down and replacing it with one of my G90s, at least on an experimental basis. But given the size and weight of a G90, it's not a change to be made lightly. Pardon the pun.
