Never did make a parts list for the set, I just ordered what was bad right away. I normally don't repair TV sets anymore myself, they are just too awkward to haul around and are generally not worth the effort to repair.

You'll have to poke around with a DMM to see whats bad. I only worked on the set as it was for a friend.

I probably did get your PM about scaling, I'll check it out and reply back to ya.

Do you remember if it was just caps or was it transistors and IC's too? I'll poke aroundwith a DMM later but just wondering which parts you replaced?

No capacitors, it was diodes and rectifiers (the parts attached to the heatsinks) There should be a couple test points on the board, if you have them and test the test points in diode scale with a DMM, and it tests short, that's your problem board, and likely the bad parts I just mentioned. I had to replace all of them. I was fortunate that none of the other boards were bad, and all the voltages were spot on with the Service manual.

FWIW I had the PN51D550C1FXZA model mac mentioned, the 1080p version, but almost the same thing otherwise.

Also those test points should be on the Y sustain as well and buffer boards.

Also the blink codes mean jack.

OK I just know on the SONY TV's I've worked on the blink codes pointed us in the right direction.

I'll hit the boards with the DMM when I get the chance. Looking forward to a successful repair.

I pulled this apart and, tested the X-main board last night. Out of 14 transistors 12 appear to be shorted. The Y-main didn't have the same issue.
Also got really weird readings for the 4 electrolytic caps on there. (150 uF, 105deg, 250v ) so I'll change those too. Who knows it may live again.

So where should I place my order for the parts?

ebay is the only place you'll find those parts, and 12 out of 14? Exact same count that went bad on mine! Laughing

Replace those (and the caps too) and it should work fine, theres not a lot to the board. The only other thing would be to check the PSU voltages after its working to make sure they are where they're supposed to be. Mine were spot on after the repair so it didn't need adjustment.

Yeah what a coincidence eh? Laughing

I'll scour eBay for these then. Thanks!

I'm guessing only one transistor is shorted. A bunch are in parallel (usually), so if one shorts, they all read that way.

and, as you've found out, it's a bitch to figure out which one is bad. Worse, in some NEC chassis, some transistors get shorted out by relay contacts when the set isn't on (and at some resolutions), so you pull ALL of the transistors that read a dead short, and all of them are OK. Took a while to figure that one out. Smile

For the price I paid for the TV I'll replace all of them. IF I can find them.

You probably can't. Why not just look for a used working board on eBay? Will be faster and cheaper.

That itself is quite a task too since its a commonly failing board. They likely aren't available. I bought all the parts on ebay, so if they aren't on ebay, I don't know where they could be bought from then.

I've been watching eBay for months now, but as Jeremy says most of these TV's have the same board fail so very hard to find. Lots of Y-sustain boards but no X-Sus boards

Anyone else have any ideas for the parts?

AR, can you give me the part # of each part you need, and quantity of them? I bought more than I needed for my TV like this in the event I came across another one since I figured these parts would become unobtanium.

Give me what ya need and I can see what I got left Smile
