My first CRT projector was a VPH-722Q1. I got a lot of use out of it and it actually did a very good job.

I ran it on the same 8 foot wide screen I still use today with my 9500LC. It was adequately bright.

It also just coincidentally had the right range of V. height and H. width adjustments that I could change it from 4:3 mode to 16:9 mode simpy by running the V. height control from one extreme to the other, and then making a few minor convergence tweaks, which took just seconds to make.

It's limited to NTSC video specs only, but really was a pretty good machine within that limitation. I watched many movies on it, and never once thought I was seeing a bad picture.

It spoiled me in one respect: Being a fanless unit, it set the standard for quiet projectors. I'm happy to live with the low noise generated by my fan-modded Marquee, but it can't ever be as quiet as the 722 was.

You know with a couple of boxes and some cables you could try 576p from a DVD/Bluray player into a componet to RGB transcoder then into an Extron box and out to the projector at 288p. Hmmm that would be fun to try... Just wonder if it could handle 288p vs 240p?

I ended up not getting anything new done to the projector, Stored it away for about 5 months, missed it, took it back out and now it's right back where it was, displaying output from a Roku-like box. Watch all the YouTube and Netflix straight from that. Before it was hooked up via the Composite output of my laptop. Now with the "6 foot interface" everything is great! It's not HD but I don't mind much, haha! I have a friend holding onto a HD set for me right now, but the thing is monstrous and not fit for our current living space. I will be upgrading one day... Just not yet. Until then, I will hold onto my trusty 722 that still to this day impresses me.

Thanks for all the support everyone here! I know more about this old thing than ever before thanks to you all! I have plans for it once we move, until then it will be a trusty Netflix machine!

If a 722 impresses you, a 9500LC will blow your mind!
