Hey guys,

I just sold someone on the forum an HDFUry with a power supply. When I went to test the HDFury before shipping it out I discovered that the PS I have does not actually have the correct output plug (it's slightly too large on the OD). Could someone please tell me the diameter specs on the PS output plug for the HDF version 1?

Is it the same as the HDF2 with + on the sleeve and - on the center pin? What are the diameters I am looking for? I think I am going to have to order the cable. I have plenty of power supplies that will work, but nothing around that has the correct barrel.

Thanks,
craigr

Craig, it's the same plug and polarity as the HDFury2. You can use a power plug from a Nokia phone BUT you must reverse the polarity.

From the FAQ's:
The DC jack on the side of the HDfury must follow all these requirements:
- Provide REGULATED (+/- 5%) 5VDC power with 0.5A min DC current
- Deliver the power through a small 0.65mm diameter center pin / 2.6mm outer diameter DC plug (like the one often used in cellular phone AC adaptor)
-Provide the correct polarity with 'plus' on the OUTER part of the plug and 'minus' (ground) on the small center pin of the DC jack.
Maximum power : 0.4A under 5V (at 165MHz pixel clock)

Thanks for the info.

Now where am I going to find one of those phone cords...

Anyone know where I can order just that odd size barrel connector? I have plenty of 5v wall warts, just not the right barrel.

Mouser sells them I . I used them for the Radiance Power supply i built.

And radio shack might have the size you want. I also got some from there as well.

Nash, using the chart you posted up, can tell me which one I should buy?

The AC3-U seems to be the winner using Analog's criteria:

The DC jack on the side of the HDfury must follow all these requirements:
- Provide REGULATED (+/- 5%) 5VDC power with 0.5A min DC current
- Deliver the power through a small 0.65mm diameter center pin / 2.6mm outer diameter DC plug (like the one often used in cellular phone AC adaptor)
-Provide the correct polarity with 'plus' on the OUTER part of the plug and 'minus' (ground) on the small center pin of the DC jack.
Maximum power : 0.4A under 5V (at 165MHz pixel clock)

P.S. The barrels on these things are more or less the same, right??

Okay, having a total n00b moment here. Please be patient with me.

I still haven't taken care of the power supply for this thing, so decided to take of it this weekend. I followed Nash's advice and hit RadioShack. Looks like they had NOTHING close to 500MA at 5V. Neither does their online store.

Last night, I checked out Mouser and found the "flow chart" for ordering stuff. They had the right amperage and voltage, but not the barrel size needed. I have the appropriate plug, courtesy of an old multiplug kit, but just need the right power brick.

Should I just order one with the right electrical rating and just pop on this new head, or go find this Nokia charger?

Just get the right voltage/amperage and plug the tip in for negative (-)

Three crucial things:

1) It needs to be a REGULATED 5 volt supply
2) It needs to be 500mA or more. You can go as high as you want amperage wise.
3) The DC plug needs to be the right diameter

and a bonus 4, as Jeremy already says, the polarity needs to be right.

Since I have the proper USB cord I power it off of the PS3, cable box, ATSC tuner or powered USB hub.
