no Razz I have a Rega P5 which I practically stole for $850. with RB700 toneram and the outboard power supply. however, I see a nice niche for this table now. If you want something a little nicer than the $180. Orbit your only options were the base offerings from Rega and Sumiko, and those tables are pretty crude and rather ugly. Best you could do is a $400. Project Debut with colored plinth, and you would still need an outboard phono-pre with USB port if your looking to digitize.
After that, Your next step up was to drop over a grand ,so this is a rather nice alternative in terms of all that you get.

Slightly off topic. Why an S tone arm as opposed to a straight tone arm? Hey?!?! Why are they called TONE arms instead of just arms?

not OT at all, I don't know why TEAC went to a S arm. Looking at that table, it looks like they're trying to capture that segment of the market that bought the old Denon DP series tables back in the day(they fetch big bucks now). The TEAC looks almost exactly like the old Denon's minus the direct drive and strobe speed indicator. On the Denon's you actually got 2 arms with different mass, there was an extremely low mass arm for certain feather weight cart's and the regular high mass S shaped arm.

I believe the S-arm design is to ease Cartridge alignment. If you look at a straight arm the actual head-shell is pitched at an angle relative to the arm, so the tiny pin leads on the tone-arm and the cartridge are at severe angle to each other.

Quote:
The tone arm got its name before the age of electronics. It originally served to conduct actual sound waves from a purely mechanical "pickup" called a sound box or reproducer to a so-described "amplifying" horn.
