Here is the HV splitter from a 1999 Marquee 9500LC ultra with 5000 hours on it.

What's the rest of the projector like? That splitter looks like it's been on the bottom of a river.

Its my experience that they all look like that when they have around 4000-5000 + hours on them, its like some sort of conductive stuff who stick to the HV parts like metal on a magnet.

The Marquee seems to run much more stable and with less crakeling when kept clean.

Very appealing to the eye seeing that. I also hide my splitter behind the FGM but think it might be possible to fit it underneath too. I will also clean it like you did. Nice!

Mind telling how you did this?
I have the top of mine right now and would like to get the cables looking neat at least(even if I am the only one who sees them)

I may tuck them under the lens but given I have to remove the blue tube soon(needs to be flushed due to gunk) I may route them like you have now as it looks cleaner

Definite +1 to keeping the HV stuff clean. I remember having a few snaps/pops from time to time on my CRT PJs and I would make sure (after they had been off for a while) to completely clean all HV leads and connection items. That HV stuff tends to collect all sorts of 'soot' and dust that leads to arching.

Agreed as I got a Samsung tv from my neighbor before he moved that had a tube fail due to arcing(arced through the tube neck) needless to say the inside was filthy with dust everywhere (have since cleaned and retroed a marquee into the tv chassis as as it was it wasn't worth the money to fix)

Do you find that the splitter location affects image quality?

Are you guys just wiping the splitter and leads down with a damp cloth and really letting things dry? I've not tried this but am starting to get the crackles more and more lately.

That should be enough. I have also used isopropyl alcohol spray onto a cloth and wipe the part. It evaporates completely.

Why do I feel like the only one who has yet to see dust in his projector?

I live on a dirt road and use my projector at least every weekend

Weird

I would have to say I have not seen the level of crap on parts that I have seen in some of the pictures so far.
