Kal's old house was one of the nicest ones I've seen....Really tastefully done...Perhaps he can chime in with some images.

Thanks for the compliments! Pics of my old setup are here:

I'm not a huge fan of dedicated HTs. I like something that's a mix of bar/lounge/HT area even though I know it can compromise HT audio/video quality (mostly audio). I'm the design phase of my new basement now. Building tentatively starts in April and should take about 12 weeks. I'll be posting more pics. Edit: See here: http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/basement

Here's a few of mine. Some of them are kind of blurry because I had to take them in panoram mode with my phone.

A dedicated theater is cool but you need a pile of space. I personally think for a useful rec room I'd rather have a multifunction room.

I might not have the space here, but I'd love an "L" shaped area so I could have a wine room behind a wet bar, which backs onto a pool table area with maybe some arcade/ pinball machines, then a seating area and TV with consoles (in the corner) and around the corner have a theater area. Not huge but enough to seat 4-6. So maybe a 3 seater couch with arm chairs or loungers on each side. That way those watching a movie won't disrupt people talking, playing pool, etc...

Having said that half of my 6' crawl space is behind built in bookshelves. I'd love to put the theater in there. It's roughly 14x22 feet on that side. Low head room, but would be cool to have wine room/ theater behind a secret door. Would also help noise reduction. It's also not finished so could noise proof in there, run cables, etc...

Now if wifey can just keep from transferring back to Edmonton.

Now keep in mind basement has not been purged/ organized. It's embarrassing, been like that since the movers dumped everything down there (crawl space). It's on my list, but in order to potentially sell, I'm focusing upstairs for now.

Finger is pointing towards built in's. White post above boxes is end of basement on other side of wall.

In crawl space (yes It'll be cleaned up! lol) right of the steel post is where bookshelves back onto. Perfect entrance, wine room on left, then open to cozy screening room. Pool table could go where projector is now. Basically if you had 20 people over you could have enough space for people to do multiple things.
