|
Guys,
Last night my Marquee 8500 developed this issue with the picture being curved at the sides. I also noticed a burned electronics odor coming from it also. Strangely there is no faults being shown on the CLM. The odor appears to becomimg from the location where the HDM board is housed. As far I can tell the controls still work fine. Phase, size, geom, conv etc. Other than this problem the 8500 has been very stable and reliable for me. I'll attached an image below showing what the picture looks like. Thanks for any help you can give to help figure this out.
Just to provide more details right before this happened, the picture suddenly looked like it was tearing. Like the image was too close to the edge of the tubes. I checked to make sure it but it wasn't.

dpb is failing i guess.
push the chips on the clm and dpb and clean contacts on the clm.

If you smelled something burning, it likely is more than contacts. Do reseat the chips and boards on the CLM, and see if the side pin and keystone work. Could be the HDM, convergence board or CLM.

Most of the geometry controls still work except for side pin and keystone. I'll try reseating the boards again tomorrow morning after I get home from work.

Swap out the board, or send it to myself or Tim for testing. It could be a number of issues as I indicated above.

Never was able to fix that sucker.
I wouldn't even bother sending it, just buy a newer HDM, go for a newer 08P from an Ultra
oh and please Pull the HDM and take a pic of the burnt spot for our information.

Guys
It could be a vertical pulse that syncs the key and pin has gone missing; suggest you send me the HDM, control board and vertical board for testing.

Just to give an update. After reseating the boards and cleaning the contacts, the projector seems to have started to perform normally again. All controls perform as intended.I'm not sure how long it will continue to do so however. I've been running it for several hours at a time and so far so good. Thanks for all the suggestions

Thanks for all the suggestions | well if you smelled something burning I would try and find out what it was. Fitst place I would look is by pulling out the horizontal deflection board and checking the connector on the motherboard. That is one spot where I have seen burned sockets from poor pin contact.

I looked at the motherboard closely and I didn't see anything that had any signs of anything being burnt. I really don't smell the burnt odor anymore. I did clean the projector thoroughly when I had it partially disassembled. I'll pull the HDM board again and recheck. Can never be to careful.
As a side note Dragan, this is the Marquee 8500 I purchased from you years ago. This is the first real "issue" that I've experienced with it.

No point in worrying about it though, if you couldn't find anything and it's still running normally then just use it.
Depending on how long ago you bought it would determine how much was done ot the boards, I did a lot more in the last 3 years than prior, but the basics would have been there. P14 filament voltage, anamorphic mod, cleaning of all socketed chips, Dot fix, etc. would have all been done going back 10 years.
Parts are plentiful too, machine should easily run for years to come. Got over 10 years on mine and it's still cruising along to regular movie nights and game of thrones binge watching.

Honestly I'm not overly worried about whether the issue returns or not as I have a 1209s waiting in the wings. I've put quite a few hours on the Marquee and I look forward to putting many more on it.
